Can killer whales sue SeaWorld for enslavement?
A lawsuit filed Wednesday by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and other "next friends" of five SeaWorld killer whales takes that novel legal approach.
The 20-page complaint asks the U.S. District Court in Southern California to declare that the five whales -- Tilikum, Katina, Corky, Kasatka, and Ulises -- are being held in slavery or involuntary servitude in violation of the 13th Amendment.
A PETA statement said the lawsuit is the first of its kind in contending that constitutional protections against slavery are not limited to humans.

My 14 year old is enslaving goldfish. Please don’t tell anyone.
Don't these people have anything else to do . . . like go to work . . .
I'll save my deep concern for the 3,300 unborn Americans who get slaughtered every day in our country before I worry about killer whales that probably live longer and safer lives in captivity rather than getting eaten alive in the wild.
Fascinating that some libtards will "write" for the poor whales, and not for humans.
“Tilikum, Katina, Corky, Kasatka, and Ulises”
I can’t wait for the class action against pet shops on behalf of dogs, cats and every other type of pet. Or against farms on behalf of farm animals. Or against honey producers due to their “bee slavery.” What a bunch of maroons. I’m sure that the PETA folks make a good point once in a while, but they say and do so many idiotic things that I wouldn’t listen to them even if they had footage of McDonald’s using California condor eggs for their Egg McMuffins.
I just realized that last example I gave would be something that Greenpeace, not PETA, would protest.
Present to the court signed agreements showing that the animals agreed to perform in exchange for a nominal salary and future educational and home loan benefits, as well as veterinary healthcare related to their service. Use flipper prints for the signatures.
Then tell the PETA people to f*-off and die.
Actually yes. They are quite busy being one of the largest organizations that euthanize pets.
Kind of makes one wonder doesn't it? Not really. FOLLOW THE MONEY!!! They incur no costs in these law suits and are actually reimbursed from , you guessed it, taxpayer funds. Win or lose, they win $$$$$$.
They are killer whales, so a murder conviction should be pretty easy. You are given a life sentence of jumping through a hoop and swimming upright on your tail.
Skip the formalities in your first paragraph. Get pithy, just use the last line.
I despise PETA as much as the next freeper, but keeping an orca in a swimming pool is cruel and disgraceful.
First they will go after aquarium which educate people and then they will go after our food supply which feeds people. It’s a matter of time before we are dying of starvation and too dumb to do something about it.
