If the candidates don’t like the format, they are free to change it. Personally, I think they are crazy for doing these debates on liberal turf. I think the upcoming Lincoln-Douglas style debate between Gingrich and Cain should be really interesting.

The Debates have certainly help America develop an appreciation for Herman Cain and allowed Newt Gingrich to redeem himself to many Americans who despised him. They now love him; or at least love his politics. Yours truly for one.

I think the media enjoys pitting one candidate against another....Perry vs. Romeny as exapmle clearly seen in last debate.

But in this the other candidates do speak and you are right about Cain and Newt rising as a result of what they have spoken at these debates.

I for one completely can support Newt having looked at his record and when wrong e has admitted so and changed direction...not just lip service.

Cain has me worried for he is simply unprepared to take on the Obama machine..no ground crew won't get him the Presidency.

Perry if you can’t win a debate in your own party, then how do you expect to influence a nation or a congress????

Bad move on Perry's part to "run away" from bumpy road he's on. Washington will be moreso....he's just called he's stepping out of the Primary...which am not surprised. He really didn't want this to begin with...he loves being Governor.

Yes indeed! makes me wonder if this isn't really positioning Newt and Cain as the front runners....I suspect Cain will rise to the challenge and Newt will help him rise...to a point.

Actually Newt has even less of ground game then Cain. So if your concern is “ground game” you should be really really worried about Newt

GO AFTER THE MARXIST, like Mr. Speaker and Herman Cain! Ignore THAT POS Romney, like Herman Cain and Mr. Speaker!

I think they are both saving the hard hitting stuff until up against Obama...not revealing their cards fully til then but will take pot shots at Obama in what is commonly known, but always from the perspective of then giving their stance so people know where they stand.

Am so looking forward to the Linclon Debate! I think we'll see some statesmanahip there and about time! Haven't heard yet who is going to carry this debate live..have you?

The correct thing for the election is to cut that number in half for ALL candidates.

Or less.

The problem with the "dog and pony shows" is lesser candidates are put on equal footing with stronger candidates. The reason there are stronger candidates is that they have built up over time experience, organization and financial support. Right now we are seeing a lot of people get very excited about candidates that are long shots at best to beat obama.

One example of this is Newt Gingrich. He has not been able to raise enough money to keep a top shelf campaign staff with him. He is rising in the polls because he's so good in this forum. However, have we all forgotten how he has disappointed conservatives so many times? Have we forgotten the terrible mistakes he's made in his personal life?

Another example is Herman Cain. He is the darling of the media and a lot of FReepers right now. He has done well in the debates, but he has no organization to speak of and has limited funds. Also, he has given the opposition all kinds of material to use against him because of his inability to coherently express his position on any issue. One question about Herman Cain that has not been answered is why he doesn't seem to have big support among the business community? Bundlers of huge funds such as the Home Depot group have steered clear of him even though Cain should have a better knowledge of how govt is killing free enterprise then most of the candidates.

I think the problem for Perry in pulling out of the debates is he will never hear the end of it from the media and it will be a drag on his campaign. He really is in a no win situation. If he debates he is attacked by the Romney sycophants and only gets loaded questions. If he doesn't debate he is accused of running away.

Perry has a great team around him and his TV advt. looks great. I think his organization and TV advt. are going to get him back to the top, but he will have to articulate a great reason for not debating.

Hardly...Newt's already on the move in Iowa and doing very well. Tweets up...Videos on line and his ground crew has several internet sites up and running strong... as well as meetings planned and already established...this week they are on the move no doubt about it.

Standing room only at Newt town hall in Davenport Iowa ..Oct 24

Great turnout for Newt at Loras College in Dubuque, IA tonight...Oct 24

If Cain gets the nomination, I hope the RNC and GOP powers that be offer him all the assistance he needs in the General Election Campaign.

Well that would remain to be seen...but they would be wise to get behind the favored candidates the people are supporting...better sooner than later.
