Hayashi, 45, who has served in the Assembly since 2006 — and is married to Alameda Superior Court Judge Dennis Hayashi

All you anti-immigrant, racist* bashers just don't realize how hard it is to make ends meet on such pittances as Dedicated Public Servants are forced to live on.

It isn't like the old days, when they could depend upon unlimited graft to make up the shortfall. /sarc

Maybe her defense lawyer can make a case that it wasn't theft, but she was just collecting undocumented donations.

*racist: Democrat is now officially a race, just as "Muslim" is now a race

She’s Asian-American. Most of them still have very high regard for reputation, “face,” and propriety. If SHE doesn’t care, I’d bet her family does.

Who knew shoplifting was such a rush! lol So here’s my pathetic “shop lifting” story: Do you remember those long flat pieces of taffy sold in dime stores when we were kids? They were a nickle - I bought one and got to the car and realized I had two stuck together. I was about 6 years old and started crying thinking I was going to be in trouble for stealing! My Mother told me to just take the extra one back inside and tell them what happened. It was so traumatic. I never stole anything in my entire life.

We don't want to jump to conclusions here. It's just a "misunderstanding." *snort*

Calif. lawmaker says shoplift was misunderstanding

She earns over $120,000 a year. What in her right mind possessed her to shoplift?

They bumped it up to $950 I believe this year. Too many felonies, and since most large jurisdictions are not prosecuting misdemeanors now, keep it under a grand and you get away with it every time.

OK, I wasn’t aware of the change to the law. Thanks.

Mom was smart! Lessons learned early last a lifetime.

IIRC it was Bonomo’s Turkish Taffy ... I pulled out a filling with one (strawberry) and never had another. Those things were brutal!
