A Revved-Up Rick Perry Woos a Conservative New Hampshire Crowd

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Rick Perry gave the crowd tonight at the Cornerstone Action Dinner a peek at a different Rick Perry than the one that’s been on display in recent debates and television interviews.

Perry, who has received criticism over his lack of energy in some debates and speeches, adopted a more lively tone as he spoke to the conservative advocacy group, despite having to miss his Texas Rangers play in game seven of the World Series.

As he joked with the crowd of approximately 450 people, Perry compared the slogan of the state of New Hampshire to that of the Alamo.

“This is such a cool state,” he said. “I mean, c’mon. ‘Live free or die.’ You gotta love that right? I come from a state, you know, where they have this little place called the Alamo and they declared, ‘Victory or death.’ We’re kind of into those slogans – ‘Live free or die.’ ‘Victory or death.’ ‘Bring it.’”

Perry carried his energetic tone throughout the speech as he touted the new tax plan he unveiled earlier this week. His campaign even distributed at each seat a sample postcard people could use to file their taxes under the proposed 20 percent flat tax system.

“I have a great respect for the New Hampshire model,” he said. “You think about no state income tax, no state sales tax. If you do that right-to-work thing, then you are going somewhere.

“I love Herman. Is he the best? I just try to have fun with him. He’s a great and interesting guy. And thank you, Herman, for helping pay for the event tonight.”

Herman Cain for President was a gold sponsor for the Cornerstone Action dinner Friday night.

And Perry was behind 25% in polls at one point during the last governor’s race and came back to readily win the election. He will readily tell you that. He’s not ashamed. That’s just how politics and campaigns are sometimes.

There is plenty of time to see what happens to... oh... to whoever your candidate is, and to mine, and even to some other candidates too most likely.

It’s called “the nomination PROCESS”.

Let’s let our American system work and if conservatives stand for real conservative principles in a candidate and are not be fooled by other things, we’ll HAVE a conservative candidate to run in this next general election.

Still, the bad news for you I would assume, based on Governor Perry’s renewed campaign energy, his comprehensive and 100% conservative economic reform package, and his experience and plan for an energy producing / energy independent nation, your candidate’s road is going to be getting a little more bumpy in upcoming days.

Still, hang in there. There’s still time for movement in all directions for all candidates, old buddy, mine AND yours. It’s always been that way in life, and it always will.

Took a vacation this week from Free Republic ... I see you’ve made some great Perry posts.

I also see the nasties are still hovering, so I may take a few more days away.

They have no idea that their infighting may well result in a Romney candidacy. Why can’t they support their man, Cain, without posting ugly, ugly stuff about Perry?

Mystery to me.

Mystery to me.

Maybe I can help clear up that mystery.

Many have said that Texas, and Perry in particular, are dealing with the immigration problem in the best way they can.

Most of us, along with the conservative movement, realize that 'the best we can' isn't good enough for America. In fact, it's very dangerous.

We want "the best we can" to stay in Texas.

You only explained your irrational prejudice.

No, thanks. And you are helping Romney get the nomination if Cain keeps screwing up.

Congrats.

I’m now prejudiced too!

Damn, I thought my heartless pin was all I was going to get.

You want to live in the hellhole of Mexico, be my guest.

The rest of us freedom loving Americans are fighting tooth and nail so that hellhole is contained in Texas and California.
