Merkel to push for minimum wage

Chancellor Angela Merkel is looking to introduce a “market-based organised lower limit for wages” of at least €6.90 an hour—although her party has always been against a minimum wage. …

The CDU said the level should be set by a commission of social partners – employers and trades unions – and that it should be oriented on the agreed wage for temporary work. This is currently €6.89 per hour in the east of the country and €7.79 in the west.

The CDU is calling for a unitary hourly wage to be agreed for those workers who are not covered by other wage agreements.

This is being widely seen as an attempt by Merkel to put herself in a more socially-friendly light with an eye on the 2013 federal election.

FTR, €6.90 ATTOW is US$9.77 and €7.79 is $11.03. The CDU shifting left is troubling, but not really taboo under a social market economy, I guess.

Dunno. Her party isn't supposed to be, though.

Frauds, every party in Europe has been infiltrated. Democracy there and here has become a sham for the benefit of the masses. Our votes have become meaningless and our will is ignored by faceless unelected bureaucrats. We are in dire need of an overthrow of the entire political ruling class and the oligarchs who finance them..

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here. In Germany unemployment is at its lowest since Dec 1991.

It's at 6%, down from 11.4% in mid-2005, she took office that Nov.
