Michele Bachmann is coming under the microscope after insisting she would not help the children of illegal immigrants living in the United States.
The Republican presidential hopeful made the eyebrow-raising remarks at a campaign stop in Oskaloosa, Iowa on Saturday after a Latino college student asked what Bachmann would do to the children of undocumented immigrants.
She said she would not do anything, for the children, adding"Their parents are the ones who brought them here," Bachmann said, as first reported by MSNBC. "They did not have the legal right to come to the United States. We do not owe people who broke our laws to come into the country. We don't owe them anything."
Bachmann has previously taken the hardline stance that she's against the federal government giving U.S. citizenship to the children of those parents who came to the country illegally, which is the case today.
She then brought up her own family's history during the question and answer session.
"I dare say that probably every single person in this room descends from immigrants. I did-my immigrant family came here in the 1850s and they came into the United States legally. They received zero benefits."
Immigration came up at another stop in Ottumwa, Ia, where Bachmann suggested there should be a law barring citizenship to the children of illegal immigrants, according to the Des Moines Register.
"We've got to end this anchor-baby program," she said.
A friend of mine, Chuck Buck, moved his family and his business to Idaho. Heard of Buck Knives? After 60 years in San Diego County Chuck moved the entire operation to Post Falls. Many employees went also all to escape the liberal hellhole that is California.
I see two governors of border states (Jan Brewer and Susana Martinez) who are trying to solve the problem and two others (Perry and Brown) who are committed to creating an illegal aliens paradise.
California already is a deep blue state that is bankrupt primarily because of illegal aliens and Texas isn’t that far behind.
It’s not just border states.
Maryland has a BIG problem.
I saw a Latino family on the bus today. The husband had a “mexico” hat
on. they were talking in both spanish and english.
It’s obvious that you can live fine in Maryland and trust to not get in trouble.
I see Latino families in the grocery store, in Target, etc.
But Gov. O’malley and Rep. van hollen don’t care because they don’t have
to encounter them or personally support them financially. They just love them in the abstract.
I want to know one Democrat who lives in a neighborhood who encounters
illegal aliens all the time and their property tax went up because of them
in the schools.
Oh, that’s right. Dems go to Sidwell Friends.
I have to dissent with the majority here.
Without an education, no kid goes anywhere. I know, I know, they don’t “belong” here, but they were not responsible for ending up here. Their parents are.
I work with a lot of immigrants and drop-outs. I am OK working at a dead-end job b/c it’s a means to an end (buying the farm) but if the kids can’t read, drop out of school, a precarious factory job or welfare is all they can look forward to.
Education has always been a way up and way out of poverty. Along with hard work.
I see the immigrant thing from both sides. One branch of my family has been in America since about 1650, the other side came in 1900 or so, and several of the kids did not speak English at first.
The locals mocked them to scorn, made fun of their names, accents and broken English, and so my great-grandpa declared English only at home and made all the kids go to school. The ones who didn’t start in the mines at 12 or 14.
So, ideally, they SHOULD come here legally and SHOULD learn English, but those are the adults responsiblities.
We shouldn’t hold the kids responsible for their parents’ mistakes.
I know this is a minority opinion (no pun intended)but felt like it needed to be said.
“Texans will be moving to Ohio or Michigan in search of a better life.”
I really didn’t intend to post tonight. Just intended to check on what was in the news. But your comment just tickled the heck out of this arrogant Texan.
When I flee Texas...I’m gonna head for Dearbornistan, lol.
Truthfully, FRiend, there is an illegal (and legal in the case of of my pretend projected destination) problem in every state, not just Texas.
In any case, you gave me a chuckle. But I probably won’t be buying a snow blower for future use anytime soon.
“In any case, you gave me a chuckle. But I probably wont be buying a snow blower for future use anytime soon.”
Sure you can joke about it. But I lived in California when it turned the corner from a nice state to Socialist hell-hole. Anyone who thinks that cannot happen to Texas is delusional. It’s all in the demographics...and we elect someone that will push for Amnesty (i.e., Romney or Perry), then that day comes much, much, sooner.
The problem starts at the BORDER and that includes Texas real estate as well as Dulles Airport!
40% of the illegals entered with a legal visa then overstayed. They may be harder to catch now but it should be possible to catch them easier in the future through application of modern technology to the problem of tracking visa holders.
Texans and Vermonters have no peculiar expertise regarding keeping illegals out ~
I’m voting for Michele Bachmann.
I agree with you about California, but Texas, New Mexico and Arizona are still wrestling with it.
Just take a look at California, what it was 15 years ago, when it first seriously began implementing the Perry response to the Mexican invasion, and where it is today. Texas is on that same road.
The real question for the rest of us in the not too distant future is probably going to be this: Should we rescue Texas, or should we just let it become another Mexican hellhole?
That’s why we need someone who will put an electric fence on the southern border to keep the hoards out.
Sending Mexicans back to Mexico is hardly punishment. On a world scale it’s actually one of the better places to go.
“Good luck with stopping all those rogue Canadians from running across the border!”
LOL!
Bachmann is correct in that the illegals come for the freebies (which weren't available when your ancestors arrived), Take away the goodies and they will stop coming.
The “compassionate conservatism” you espouse and that Bush43 and Perry practice helped get us in the mess we are in today.

And you wonder why no one trusts the Mainstream Media
You should be ashamed of yourself, Aliyah.
For starters, you rudely awakened me with a much-too-early call at 6:56am Pacific time.
What, if anything, did they teach you at Columbia J School about calling subjects before and after work hours? Was my 310 area code not enough of a clue?

In response to be a bit more open minded. Here is my recipe.
I would welcome the Latino family I saw on the bus today IF:
They could prove they never took any welfare benefits.
Never took EITC. NEver will take food stamps. never will get Obamacare
subsidies.
They paid all their taxes. They are self supportive. They do not have one
misdemeanor, not even an unpaid traffic ticket.
They would be on probation for probably five years.
Then maybe I would think about giving them a green card.
Never citizenship. They do not deserve it. THey broke the law.
Felons don’t vote. why should they?
If they did anything wrong, they would be outta here.
Never to be given any other chance.
I hate hearing about Obama’s Uncle in MA, arrested for DUI.
and Obama’s Aunt Zeituni using all the welfare services. If someone
in their family couldn’t sponsor them (i.e. fully support them— I’m talking
to you Barack Obama— YES YOU), then they would be on the list—
to be deported immediately.
It used to be immigrants always had to have financial sponsors. You
could never be a burden to the US.
“I see two governors of border states (Jan Brewer and Susana Martinez) who are trying to solve the problem and two others (Perry and Brown) who are committed to creating an illegal aliens paradise.”
To make a comparison of Perry to Brown is absurd. What do you think we are in Texas, anyway??? A bunch of illiterates? Do you think we don’t have a say in who our governor and legistature is? Senator Cornyn is the most Conservative senator I have ever known. He fully supports Perry. AND by the way, Governor Martinez, the wonderful Republican governor of New Mexico, is a product of a family of illegal Mexicans. Her grandparents came here illegally. What should Michele Bachman have done with her parents ?

deport them back to Mexico?
then Susanna Martinez would have had a chance to be
President of Mexico!!!
win win all around!
But, unlike Texas, Michigan is not going to have more Arabs than Anglos by 2020 or a population that is 70% Arab by 2040 (substitute the word Hispanic for Arab for Texas).
According to several studies, Texas is projected to be 70% Hispanic by 2040 and there is no way you will be able to sustain the social costs.
This woman is braver than all the other candidates put together.
If she doesn’t become the Republican presidential nominee, and she’s my pick, she should replace Bonehead as Speaker of the House.
