I don't think this has anything to do with protectionism. The purpose of this is to devalue the yen through inflation, while jump-starting the economy.
Hmmmm... Where have I heard that before?

The Japanese have to do this, because they are getting whacked by US fiscal policy. It’s a race to see who can devalue their currency faster.

I don't think this has anything to do with protectionism. The Japanese are masters of merchantilism. They have been doing this for 30+ years. It has everything to do with protecting their export industry.
Note the article references the profitability of their companies.
