Lorna Jose Mendoza has been given a choice. She can either assist in an abortion this week at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, or she could refuse and risk losing her job.
Mendoza is one of a dozen nurses who filed suit today against the hospital accusing them of violating federal and state law by forcing them to assist in abortions against their religious and moral objections.
The hospital told the nurses they have no regard for their religious beliefs, said Matthew Bowman, an attorney with the Alliance Defense Fund. They were going to be assigned these abortions or they would be terminated.
Bowman said the lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court in New Jersey, on behalf of the nurses who possess strongly held religious and moral beliefs that she may not participate in the process of an abortion that causes the death of a preborn child.
A spokesman for the hospital told Fox News they were not aware of the lawsuit and would not be able to provide comment.
Bowman told Fox News that the hospital had been performing abortions for decades without forcing nurses to violate their religious beliefs. But that changed a few weeks ago.
The hospital passed a policy and put one of the nurses who did abortions in a supervisory position and started forcing nurses to assist in abortions out of the blue, Bowman said. Its in complete violation of federal and state law that says you cant force people to assist abortions.
Bowman said hospital officials agreed to meet with the nurses to discuss the matter, but when the nurses arrived with an attorney the meeting was abruptly cancelled.

I think this may become more common. If they can't get enought doctors and nurses to perform abortions, they'll force those who don't want to (prolifers) by threatening their jobs.
If she were to grow a beard, wear a burka and assert her muslim faith, would you think they’d give her a pass?
Ping!
This is demonic!
And many pharmacists probably have the same problem.
All federal funding related to abortions needs to stop.
How many abortions does this hospital do? You’d think they could schedule around the dissenters.
I wonder about the agenda behind treating an elective procedure as though it’s such a vital part of the practice.
Many doctors have said they would not continue to practice if forced to refer and/or be complicit with abortion or euthanasia. We’ve fought for conscience protection for all medical personnel because we know that nurses and staff are more vulnerable than we are. (We can decide not to seek privileges in OB, for example, or even quit doing hospital work.)
Here’s one of the ways the Christian Medical and Dental Association has been working to alert voters and politicians about the importance of conscience in medicine:

Most hospitals have a nursing shortage anyway. I advise these nurses to start sending out their applications to other hospitals right now! When this hospital has lost all their nurses and can’t hire new ones maybe they will learn.
As a retired nurse, easy choice. Leave, lots of hospitals need nurses..no biggie.
As students we were told back in the 1980s if we were not willing to assist with abortions to be sure we worked in a hospital that did not do abortions- specifically Catholic hospitals. The point being if you worked in a different area - and if you were floated to the department that did- you had no choice. You went where you were assigned or you did not work there any more.
There is already a nursing shortage. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. Obamacare really wants those death panels. Wonder how long it will be before they decide to kill off all the old White people and Jews?
Obama overturned Bush’s “conscience rule” almost immediately upon taking office.
I’ve never worked in health care, but having friends who do, I’ve heard about the nursing shortage. Moral of the story, stand up and fight. They need nurses more than you need them. If you walk, someone else needs you. If enough nurses do this, they could put a huge dent in this very quickly.
If I was a nurse (and my sister is one), I would say no and dare them to fire me for not assisting in killing a human being. If they dared to fire me, I would go to court and argue the “Nuremberg” rule-—that there is Supra Positive Law (higher law than man’s) that states you can NEVER take an innocent life—even if ORDERED. If most good people did this....fought the evil, it would not continue as a “right”. It would be easy to prove that the fetus was a human being.
There is already a nursing shortage.

No, there isn’t. This is a myth. There are, however a lot of nurses unwilling to work because of issues like these and horrible working conditions. There are plenty of nurses, but there are a lot of hospitals unwilling to hire new grads or nurses that haven’t worked in the last 6 months, nor are they willing to staff at safe levels. But that’s just my take as an RN who’s seen it up close and personal.
I was going to say... I thought there was a massive nurse shortage.
I don’t know where you live, but I’m a RN too and there is a shortage in our area and with an aging population, the shortage is just going to grow. In the hospital where I work, we have many nurses from Africa, China and Russia because there simply aren’t enough home-grown nurses.
Any person in nursing saying its a hardship and they cannot quit are not quite telling the truth...The only thing that keeps a nurse at a specific hospital is that they choose to. Like any job, there is the door if you don’t like it and you have a better chance of getting another job than most people.
