Why?
What action?

She consumed store merchandise and attempted to leave without paying for it. Everywhere else, it’s called shoplifting.

Take away the sobbing, the baby and the victim status of a “veteran” and you’ve got a shoplifter.

The store was 100% within their legal rights to call the police.

No question. Just like a school is well within their rights to call the cops when junior is found with a pen knife or nail clippers in class. For all kinds of good reasons.

If it were MY establishment, however, I would give the couple the benefit of a doubt, accept the money they offered and avoid all this BS. No harm, no foul.

I guess our society just can't digest that kind of reaction anymore.

Yes they were!

Doesn’t mean they should have, though.

Nor am I suggesting they shouldn’t have. ;-)
