Occupy Rally Shuts Down Shipping Port Indefinitely (OWS destroying jobs they pretend to want)

Occupy Wall Street protesters declared victory after thousands of demonstrators shut down one of the nation's busiest shipping ports late Wednesday, escalating a movement whose tactics had largely been limited to marches, rallies and tent encampments since it began in September.

As a voice over a bullhorn said "The night is not over, yet," protest organizers told demonstrators to head back to the downtown plaza where the Oakland movement has been based for more than a month. The Occupy encampment across the street from City Hall also was the scene of intense clashes with authorities last week.

The nearly 5-hour protest at the Port of Oakland, the nation's fifth-busiest shipping port, was intended to highlight a daylong "general strike" in the city, which prompted solidarity rallies in New York, Los Angeles and other cities across the nation.

Liberal Mayors, Governors, and Police Unions, sympathizing with protesters, is what shut down the port and permitted vandalism to the banks.

I find it sarcastically amusing that groups of communist agitators and anarchists would adopt a catch phrase that was originally used to describe a movement that was trying to throw off the chains of communism and achieve capitalism and democracy. Solidarity my behind.

My wife and I flew to Oakland once for a day trip to San Francisco. We figured we would take Bart. We thought it would be a fun adventure. The bus from the airport took us to the bart station and we were horrified. It was like a scene out of I am Legend and Mad Max rolled into one place. There were a lot of people there but I felt naked without a side arm. We never got on Bart but took another bus back to the Airport and flew home. And these folks are only making it worse.

Oakland needs to be nuked and rebuilt, like they did to Hiroshima.

BTW, I lived in Vallejo back in the mid-60’s. Oakland was nowhere near the cesspool then that it is now.

Perfectly fine ports in San Pedro, Seattle and San Diego. Oakland had best get its port open pronto.

Too bad a group of properly motivated longshoremen weren’t employed to clear the entrances.

Oakland was once the California “city of broad shoulders.”
Pity what it has become.

Photographers documenting these protests should work in teams. One readies the camera while the other pulls down the bandanna to remove the anonymity element from the equation.

The OWS gangs are receiving substantial police protection. This deal would have been all over weeks ago if the cops were pulled back and sent out to do their jobs elsewhere.
