Mitt Romney was firm and direct with the abortion rights advocates sitting in his office nine years ago, assuring the group that if elected Massachusetts governor, he would protect the states abortion laws. Then, as the meeting drew to a close, the businessman offered an intriguing suggestion that he would rise to national prominence in the Republican Party as a victor in a liberal state and could use his influence to soften the GOPs hard-line opposition to abortion
You need someone like me in Washington, several participants recalled Romney saying that day in September 2002, an apparent reference to his future ambitions
Melissa Kogut, the NARAL groups executive director in 2002, recalled Wednesday that as she and other participants in the meeting began to pack their belongings to leave after the 45-minute session, Romney became emphatic that the Republican Party was not doing themselves a service by being so vehemently anti-choice. The abortion rights supporters came away from the meeting pleasantly surprised. Romney declined to label himself pro-choice but said he eschewed all labels, including pro-life. He told the group that he would protect and preserve a womans right to choose under Massachusetts law and that he thought any move to overturn the landmark Roe v. Wade decision would be a serious mistake for our country.

Not surprising since Romney is not a conservative.
We can hear Slick Willard now:
“I was for it before I was against it.”
Does this guy have any core beliefs besides electability?
Romney would be yet another Republicrat disaster! He is as conservative as Olympia Snowe or Little Dick Durbin!
Let’s pray that a hero from the right will come riding in and demolish this pomaded asshat.
He has always been a pro-abortion, pro-homosexual marriage, anti-2d Amendment liberal and if Willard manages to steal the GOP nomination, and somehow get in the White House, the two parties have effectively merged. Conservatism will be dead in the republican party and Roe v. Wade will never be overturned. He would also appoint liberal judges to the Supreme Court, the exact same way he appointed liberal judges to the Mass bench. Romney would be a disaster as a republican president. End of story.
What I’m more interested in is that he KNEW he would running for President and that he would be the R nominee.
Do you still think we have free elections?
The Great Conservative Pumpkin will rise up and, and... Sorry, I've been waiting too long and have given up but don't condemn anyone for sitting in the pumpkin patch with Linus these days.
Obligatory pic of reassured Liberals.
Romney is not conservative by any definition of the word.
Here’s the end deal:
I don’t EVER want “liberals” to be reassured. I want them worried constantly, losing sleep at night, and so hopelessly nervous that they can never again be a threat to this country and it’s culture, it’s heritage, and it’s people.
So Mittens, no deal.
(( ping ))
It’s not surprising to me that Romney behaved this way as governor of Mass. It goes with the territory up there and I know here it is viewed as disqualifying.
Why is butchering little babies by the million in their mother’s wombs considered to be a ‘moderate’ position?
