Perry Claims He Can Secure Border in One Year as President
Fox ^ | November 3, 2011 | Hannity interviews Gov. Rick Perry

Posted on 11/03/2011 8:46:48 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

....PERRY: Well, let me just put it this way. The federal government's complete and absolute failure to secure our border put a lot of pressure on governors no matter where they might be to have to deal with issues. You are required to give health care, you are required to give education. And Texans made a decision -- are we going to kick these people to the side of the road and they are going to become tax wasters? Or are we going to require that they become citizens of the United States and become taxpayers? We chose the latter. I would still do that today, considering the barriers that if you will, the arena that we have to work in.

As the president of the United States, I am against the DREAM Act. I will shut that border down because I have had to deal with it for 10 years. I understand. I am putting Texas Rangers and National Guard, I am putting Texas citizens on the line over there, they are being fired at. Thank God none of them have been killed yet. But the fact is, I know how to secure that border. When I am the president, that border will be secure. And these issues that we have been forced to deal with as governors, will start being alleviated. And then we can have a decent, a thoughtful and economically focused conversation about immigration policy.

HANNITY: So you think you could secure the border in what period of time if you're president?

PERRY: I think you can do it within a year. I mean, seriously, within a year --

How? With people, that’s how.

That's never been effective and never will be minus using the following which your pal Rick "Open-Borders" Perry is against:

1. Complete physical Fence.
2. The use of E-Verify for ALL employment hiring purposes to effectively limit the ability of Illegals to get jobs
3. Interior Enforcement AKA AZ1070 and related state level laws.

So in short, since he is against these, he really isn't serious about this issue, much like GWB and a host of other GOP RINOS who say one thing they think will soothe or fool the base but really have a different position.

If Texas wants in-state-tuition let it be so.

However, for a conservative candidate to call the rest of us heartless because we don't want our tax dollars going support illegal education is another.

Keep Perry in Texas don't send him to the White House.

It’d be pretty easy. End all the benefits that illegals get.

No more bilingual education... or any education. No medical service without cash in hand. No food stamps, no low-income housing.

Nothing.

Most will leave of their own accord. And most of those considering a trip across the border would think again.

Come on now, have a heart...Rick Perry does.

Do you even know what the federal DREAM act is... and what the Texas DREAM act was?

Other than the name, of course. Do you know what is/was in the actual bills?

Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t SCOTUS rule that the US had to educate and medicate illegals ? Yeah, I think I’m right.
Cant remember the case name though... brain farts and CRS all at once ya know.

It’s been posted here at FR before IIRC.

My point is that after all these years people are still getting through, the point is you guys STILL have one of the biggest illegal alien problems in the country and everyone knows it!

If Perry was President and didn’t enforce the border, I’d hold him accountable for the fact that the executive branch of the federal government did not protect the nation from invasion.

That said, Perry’s never been President, so I don’t hold him accountable for actions he’s never been responsible for.

You do.

Why?

There really needs to be an honest national debate on immigration reform.

Oh Gezzzz...Shoot us now!

WTF man!...Americans have been screaming, voting, debating, protesting, demanding, picketing, and begging for relief from this epic country killing violent invasion for 20 GD years...

And now you want an honest debate?

So?

Just because the supremes state something doesn't make it right and doesn't mean we shouldn't do everything we can do to overturn it.

Remember these two dreadful Supreme Court Decisions?

1. Dred Scott
2. Roe v. Wade

So is your position really one of succombing to a bad law, an Immoral Law?

The idiots probably did, but that doesn't exclude him from vetoing and bill that favors these bums . . . if anything, just to show his contempt for the stupid law.

I think he is lying too. As Governor, didn’t he veto a tough immigration bill like Arizona’s? Or was it just a threat to veto it (so it died)?

He blames the feds for illegal aliens but I dont see him trying to take independent action, saying screw the feds, like Sheriff Joe Arpaio. I don’t see Perry bussing loads of illegals back to the border with his own people. Instead, give ‘em free health care, and in-state tuition.

I suppose it’s ‘heartless’ of me to point this out.

I wouldn't worry too much. Perry's chances of getting the nomination after his disastrous debate performances and stand on illegal immigration is just slightly higher than mine of being drafted by the Lakers next year.

Bingo! And Perry is against amnesty too. Problem is, the Feds aren't doing their job. Securing the Tex-Mex border with strategic fencing, boots on the ground and the best hi-tec hardware money can buy is what Perry did as Governor and what he would do as potus.

Perry's general campaign message is all about solid fiscal and social conservatism. Its just not resonating with conservatives. As much as Perry would like to ignore his lousy debate performances, they are cratering his campaign effort. I hope he can recover before its too late.

Well, that is what happens when you only fence part of the border. They come in through the unfenced sections.

Which is why Perry wanting to only fence part of the Texas border is such nonsense. They will simply detour a hundred miles or so to the west and come in through that section.
