United Solar Ovonic (UNI-SOLAR) is once again cutting jobs at its Greenville facility. This will be the third time since December 2009.

The latest layoffs are part of a furlough, Michael Schostak, director of business development and communications for UNI-SOLAR'S parent company, Energy Conversion Devices Inc. (ECD), told 24 Hour News 8. He said 140 employees will be let go at the Greenville facility, and plants nationwide will be idled until at least the end of the year.

Demand for the product has waned as government credits for the use of photo voltaic energy sources in Europe has dried up.

Also, current supply for solar products worldwide is more than double the demand, so there is no need to make more, Paulson said.

So, let me get this straight. We artificially influenced demand with government incentives, then artificially influenced supply with unsound loans to a variety of suppliers, and now we're shocked that it's all screwed up. Well, color me shocked!

And with the price of nat gas being so favorable, and so much capacity coming on line, I don’t see solar panels being a very good story.

The whole thing was based on Baraq’s Cap N Tax driving up the price of energy high enough to make alternatives viable.

Cap N Tax didn’t happen and the frackers put the screws to Baraq.

True, but I think it will divide up by states.

Place like NY will continue to ban it.

And ones like Ohio. WVa and Pa will make a killing on new jobs, taxes, and prosperity.
