Wisconsin: Senate passes bill requiring sex ed to promote marriage, abstinence
Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel ^ | 11/2/11 | Patrick Marley

Madison - Schools that teach sexual education would have to promote marriage and tell students abstinence is the only reliable way to prevent pregnancy, under a bill the Senate passed Wednesday.

The Republican-backed measure passed on a party-line 17-15 vote and now goes to the Republican-run Assembly. It would allow schools to teach abstinence-only courses, which has been banned in Wisconsin since last year under a law Democrats passed when they controlled state government.

Also Wednesday, the Senate passed a bill creating an elected comptroller to keep an eye on Milwaukee County's finances.

A law approved last year requires sex education courses in public schools to be age-appropriate and comprehensive, covering issues such as sexually transmitted diseases and how to use birth control. Under that law, schools can choose not to offer sex education, but they cannot offer abstinence-only courses.

The bill the Senate approved Wednesday would repeal much of that law. Its chief sponsor, Sen. Mary Lazich (R-New Berlin), said her proposal would give school districts more of a say in writing their curricula.

"This is about small government at its best," she said. "This is about local control."

But Democrats said changing the law could lead to spikes in sexually transmitted diseases and teen pregnancies.

I have my .38 S&W but I haven’t taken the class yet although I have taken some classes - none meet the requirement for the cc permit. I’m not sure that I will carry, but I want to exercise my right to carry if I decide to.

It’s simply unimaginable that any politician would vote against teaching abstinence. They don’t even have respect for the children??

Interesting sidebar. Any businesses that wants to prohibit cc on their premises had to have a sign posted by 11/1/11. I had a dentist appointment yesterday and she already had a “no guns allowed” posted at her door. Like I’m going to shoot my dentist!

When you take the class, do your shooting with a .22, perhaps a Ruger or like semi-auto target pistol ... if they will let you. You will shoot a better score and have much less ‘pain’ ... In Tennessee we had to shoot fifty rounds in less than a twenty minute stretch so I was glad to be using a Ruger Mark III. I placed all fifty rounds inside the ten and from varying distances, out to forty feet. A few decades ago, in Alabama, I had to use what I intended to carry to pass their CC class. I had a .38 Snubby then and didn’t do anywhere nears as good score.

That .38 will be a good carry pistol though. But please, practice with it when you get the chance, and shoot a few of whatever rounds you intend to load with for carry because different ammo can yield different results, as in wad cutters, or round nosed, or hollowpoints, plus “P” loads, etc. Stay safe, go armed.

CCW is good to have, even if you don't use it. When things get ugly enough that you think you might need it, you will not be able to get it in a timely manner (if at all).

Also, be sure you keep at least a couple of boxes of ammo in reserve for a rainy day.

The class we’re taking involves no shooting, and we were instructed not to bring any firearms.
It’s NRA sanctioned so we will be legal in WI but I have the impression that we will experience 4 hours (min. training requirement in WI) on the new state law. I hope I’m wrong, but I’m not expecting much from a class of 100 with 2 instructors.

We desparately need to limit the left to only discussing heterosexual reproductive sexual education and make it a crime to discuss porn - alternative adult sex (homosexuality, beastiality, oral sex, etc.) - with children and also a crime to tell children to keep school sexual secrets from their parents. They should also tell kis about abuse t

All sexual discussions with children should be open to attendance by parents. In fact, parents should have a representative in the school sex ed programs to protect kids from seuxal idenity manipulation and brain washing (grooming) by school perverts, aka, activists.

Oh dear, we have totally derailed this thread.
I guess we can talk about teaching abstinence at another time.

Another reason for the separation of School and State.
