Theological differences between the two yield different understandings of the path to economic advancement..
Like President Obama, Mr. Cain belongs to a mostly black congregation with a black pastor. But that is where the similarities end. Stark differences between the political philosophies of these two men may be rooted in their profoundly different theological heritages. The churches both men are (or in the case of Mr. Obama, were) longtime members of are known for liberal activism, but with notable differences in their views of scripture.
Mr. Cain's church, Antioch Baptist Church North in Atlanta, Ga., is theologically conservative, affirming the inerrancy of scripture and historic Christian creeds as literally true. It was founded in 1877 as eight freed slaves banded together in prayer. During its 134 years, it has hosted many civil-rights activists, and today it has 14,000 members.
The Chicago church where President Obama belonged for 20 years, Trinity United Church of Christ, is theologically liberal, eschewing scriptural inerrancy and taking apostolic creeds as "testimonies" of faith, rather than literally, unchangeably true. The scriptures are seen more as "living documents" than permanent anchors and pillars of faith

Cain’s church is Christian, Obama’s is not.
At least in Obama’s case, I would say that his faith did not shape his views. Let’s keep in mind, he did not start attending there until he was an adult, graduated from college. I would say that his views were shaped from his marxist mother, grandparents, friends and by his marxist (real) father. The last in a tenous way, via stories his mother would tell him about his father.
These views were already shaped when he decided that getting a little “religion” always helps a political career. And so, he set out to find a church that fit his leftist belief system. Before embarking on a political career.
Although I agree with the substance of your comments, there was no 'faith' to be imparted by his membership in the TUCC "church". Their gospel was one of racial grievance, and not of Christ Crucified and Risen - our Lord and Saviour. He went into that church with no belief, and that church did nothing to prick his conscience and point him towards the Lord.
0bama's church is based on a combination of Marxism and Black Nationalism. It's basically similar to the Nation of Islam, with a thin veneer of "Christian" rhetoric to fool the gullible. I looked at the website for Cain's church and don't see "liberal" activism, but a powerful use of the church to help the addicted and other suffering groups in the black community--the Christian alternative to govt. welfare and exploitation. They have the same focus as many mostly-white evangelical churches.
Obama’s is a temple of the Devil.

When I read the title of this thread I assumed that it was a metaphor for the uncritical adulation that both of these gentleman are held in by there respective parties.
Both lacking any real political experience and getting by on personality alone.
Yes indeed, the “Church” of Cain and Obama , populated by Obamunists and Cainiacs.
Barack Hussein Obama, Jr., did twenty years in Jeremiah A. Wright's hate cult ostensibly for street cred. The death of the homosexual choir director and others when Obama was raising his political sights suggests further explanation.
The preacher who spewed racial hate and hatred of America for those two decades was so near to Obama's own views the latter carried "sermons" on his electronic device.
We don't need to be reminded of the vileness which escaped the slightest criticism from the phantom who claims "America is no longer a Christian nation."
On the other hand, one has only to hear the singing of Herman Cain on Jesus, Lord and faith to see the man.
He does not need to make the case--he is the case.
