I think that Rick Santorum is refreshing.

Many people complain about RINO’s, moderates, Country Club Republicans, free shrimpers, or whatever you want to call them. But many of the same people who are critical of the more liberal elements within the Party are also highly critical of Santorum when he runs as a conservative. Sigh...

One criticism many lay at Santorum’s feet is that he lost his Senate election by 18 points. One of the reasons that happened (not the only reason, granted, but one of the big ones) is that he ran as a conservative in a non-conservative election cycle. A lot of politicians were running to the middle to get re-elected. Sure, he had an issue or two that can be pointed to that were not as conservative; but primarily he ran to the right of George Bush during an election in which the general populace thought that George Bush was too conservative. He did it even though he knew that it could cost him his Senate seat. That’s refreshing to me.

You might not like Rick Santorum, but he has the courage of his convictions. We need more like him, in good times and in bad.

BTTT — I really won’t be surprised if all the other candidates drop out and leave Santorum standing.
