A visibly frustrated Domenic J. Sarno on Tuesday blasted Western Massachusetts Electric Co. for what he called a lackluster effort to restore electricity in the region’s largest city and for projections that could leave several thousands of city residents without electricity or heat for a week or more.
Sarno, at a press briefing in City Hall, voiced frustration and anger at the restoration effort since Saturday night, and with the latest WMECO projections that power will not be fully restored in the city until Friday or Saturday.
“I’m very frustrated with their performance. This is unacceptable,” Sarno said. “I’m told that crews are on the way, but where are they?”
Sarno said that in his travels around the city since Saturday to assess the damage, he has not seen any WMECO trucks. City hall staff and department heads have reported to him the same observation, he said.

My Town's Selectman were actually on TV saying they hadn't seen a truck, despite standing in a section of town that had power restored. Self-serving morons.

Coupla years back when we waited 60 hours for power to be restored, my impulse was to drive out to the crews working the line with hot coffee and donuts, not to second guess them.
Massachusetts does just. about. everything. to make it as difficult as possible to delivery electric power and then the politicians get on the tube and bloviate about what a crappy job the electric companies are doing. If only the mayor was running the electric company. Then they wouldn’t have power restored until June if then.
Hey, Our Honor, you run a school department that is only about as effective as Boston’s in turning out illiterates. You got a lotta nerve second guessing anyone else’s performance. If the electric company was as effective as the school department, electricity would cost $1.00/kWH and we’d only have electricity 9 hours a day, with month long outtages being common.
I think that the Mayor should be exhorting the populace to get used to this condition. It’s good practice for when 0bama’s EPA get 10 percent of the power plants shutdown, beginning next year.
You mean like in the Bay area where it’s already illegal to have a fire in your fireplace most of the winter?
The first step is to get the power production plants repaired and back on line. If power isn't being produced ....
The second step is to get the major transmission lines repaired. If you produce power but can not move it to where its needed ....
The third step is to get the transformer stations repaired and back on line. Remember that these transformer stations are mini power plants.
The fourth step is get the local lines repaired.
The final step is to get the local users (homes, businesses, schools, etc) repaired. BTW - this is why many critical services (fire, police, hospitals) have emergency generators guess his honor, Mayor Sarno, thinks everything can be solved with the stroke of a pen; after all isn't he a “professional politician”?
I am fully prepared to generate my own power for 72-hours as any hurricane approaches. That gives me time to locate an gas station that has gas to pump. Once i have several sources of gas available I can continue to generate my own power for a week or more.
Guess the locals didn't pay attention to the storm forecasts and are now loudly complaining about their own lack of preparedness.
Anyone know if WEMCO’s repair crew are unionized?
