Lions’ shameful display gets pass
New York Post ^ | November 4, 2011 | PHIL MUSHNICK

Posted on 11/06/2011 1:36:23 PM PST by ConservativeStatement

You didn’t think there wasn’t going to be a price to pay for all of this, did you?

Our sports, with our kids targeted to ride shotgun, have been headed this way for years. The cumulative effect of relentlessly marketing bad as good and dismissing good as unmarketable -- the pandering, the silence, the network promos that replaced football with chest-pounders and preeners, the media’s insistence that one play with “a swagger” -- has inevitably brought us to a place that years ago should not have been fed nor watered.

This past Sunday in Denver, during a 45-10 loss to the suddenly smug Lions, Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow twice was openly mocked by two Detroit players acting like drive-time radio wise guys. Tebow’s sin? He’s deeply devoted to his Christian beliefs.

The lions are classless. Anyone who has watched them play knows this.

However, I like my football minus the preaching.

A funny thing I stumbled on this afternoon:

No he posted on his facebook page that we shouldn’t be so quick to judge, I believe it was Bin Laden, over what happened. He clearly sympathized with them. And that was the last time I visited his page.

“It’s just another case of a Christian being fed to the Lions!”

LOL! It was right there!

Exactly. Jesus had some not so good things to say about those who practice public piety. I’m glad Tebow walks with Christ. I just wish he wasn’t such an exhibitionist about it.

hey didn’t mock his faith, they mocked his celebration. Any player in any sport that develops a standard way of celebrating a big play WILL have it thrown back in his face when somebody gets a big play against him. He always does the knee drop, so it happened back at him. And he said he thought it was funny. Really people, get over it. This panic anytime anybody does anything even slightly rude to Tebow is pathetic and makes Christians look like a bunch of whiney mommas boys.

(rollseyes). Phil Mushnick is once again an idiot. Tebow isn't the only Christian in the NFL. There's a large number of them in the NFL, many outspoken and well known about their beliefs. They aren't ridiculed for them either. Javon Ringer and Jon Kitna are two that come to mind off the top of my head.

Tebow was mocked by the Lions because he wears the jersey of the Broncos. The Lions don't like the Broncos. That's because Tony Scheffler was run out of Denver. Scheffler's an ex-Bronco and did not leave on good terms. Tulloch is his teammate and directly went against Tebow on the field.

This is football. It's not nice. People are called a lot worse in the piles.

They Have Plans For America

America is like a healthy body and its resistance is threefold: its patriotism, its morality, and its spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within. - Joseph Stalin

Fantastic play on words. This took place in the Coliseum, right?

You would think the Lions would have learned their lesson after the Another One Bites the Dust fiasco. They once started a year 4-0 and thought they was the cats meow. That cat came back to bite them a big one that year.

Years ago I had 2 season tickets for a NFL team. As the players became fools, I dropped the tickets. A few years later, I lost interest altogether in the NFL. That spread to all pro sports. I haven’t watched an NFL or NBA game in 20 years. I did see a couple MLB games in there, which broke that streak. My daughter was a fan, but she lost it, too.

Rush Limbaugh mentioned this column during his Friday show.

I heard Rush talk about it. It doesn't surprise me. The Lions...I quit watching them about 15-20 years ago. I was a big fan...my Sundays would be ruined when they lost. The last 15-20 years my Sundays have been fantastic.

these athletes do it for one reason.....as a very PUBLIC witness for Jesus Christ....every evil rock star or actor or tv commentator can make it widely known their disgust with anything Christian...they shout it out...they punish the public with their crap....

we NEED a few strong Christian men to speak LOUDLY and PROUDLY.....

Agree ... the NFL corporate offices in NYC are staffed with liberals. It's the NYC way ...
Bottom line ... the Broncos kicked butt today in Oakland final score 38-24. No 'Tebowing' that I saw ... maybe Shannon Sharpe will shut his trap and let Timmy show his stuff. As a Bronco season ticket holder since 1977 I'm encouraged with what I see in Tebow ... he's the real deal.
