Back in 1982 there was a card carrying lesbian feminist on my team where I worked at a large aerospace manufacturer in Seattle. She even had a couple of “I support the ERA” bumper stickers on her car.
One day we are waiting for a team member to show up at our meeting and could see him walking across the campus to our building. She said we should get started and I said we’ll wait. She asked why we sould do what I said and I said, “’Cause I’m the male.”
Different world then, and it gave me great pleasure to say it.
Epilogue. If she had been a normal feminine woman and asked me the same thing, I would have said what I was really thinking: that the other guy was a key player and we needed him to be there from the beginning to make the meeting productive.
But it was more fun to do a bit of an “in your face”, in a simpler time when men were men and sheep were nervous.
