To: cuban leaf
That goes back to the ‘70’s. A women once scolded me for holding a door. I replied: “I'm sorry, I shouldn't have assumed you were a lady.” (That probably wouldn't be a smart thing to say today.)

Back in 1982 there was a card carrying lesbian feminist on my team where I worked at a large aerospace manufacturer in Seattle. She even had a couple of “I support the ERA” bumper stickers on her car.

One day we are waiting for a team member to show up at our meeting and could see him walking across the campus to our building. She said we should get started and I said we’ll wait. She asked why we sould do what I said and I said, “’Cause I’m the male.”

Different world then, and it gave me great pleasure to say it.

Epilogue. If she had been a normal feminine woman and asked me the same thing, I would have said what I was really thinking: that the other guy was a key player and we needed him to be there from the beginning to make the meeting productive.

But it was more fun to do a bit of an “in your face”, in a simpler time when men were men and sheep were nervous.
