As Israel says the possibility of an attack on Iran is growing larger, Russia's foreign minister, Sergei Lavov has warned that such action would be a huge mistake, reports the Telegraph.

"This would be a very serious mistake fraught with unpredictable consequences," said Russia’s foreign minister Sergei Lavov told reporters in Moscow. "Military intervention only leads to a multiple rise in casualties and human suffering."

Israel's President, Shimon Peres, had recently made comments recently that an attack was now being considered as an alternative to diplomacy, with growing concern over the country's nuclear program.

The Washington Post noted that a United Nations report on Iran's nuclear development, due to be released this week, reveals that the experts from Russia had been assisting the country in developing its capacity for building a nuclear bomb.

The report reportedly documents that Iran has overcome all the necessary hurdles needed to start building a nuclear bomb.

The Washington Post also reported that former Soviet nuclear scientist Vyacheslav Danilenko, helped Iranian nuclear researchers with their work over the course of five years.

Though Russia supports sanctions against Iran it has now urged against military action, warning against retaliation and the disruption of shipping and trade roots in the Middle-East.

If you blow up Iran’s centrifuges, Russia will lose a lot of money, so it’s understandable why Russia would consider it a big mistake.

The Russians have done everything they can to help Iran develop nuclear weapons. That’s what I call a serious mistake.

Are they warning of an Ezekiel 39 moment. If ever the phrase “bring it on” applied, this would be the time.

Iran has the same GDP as the state of Alabama. They have five times the population though.

How can he say it would be a huge mistake when he admits the consequences would be unpredictable?

On the other hand, not attacking and not disabling their nuke program would surely result in Israel being attacked.

It will be a bigger mistake for Israel to let Iran get in a first shot.

So much for Russia having changed its tune.

Russia may be a chrstian nation again, but historical chrstianity (as in Russia) is a very different animal from American-style Fundamentalist Protestantism.

Yup, Israel, UK and US have all telegraphed their intentions pretty clearly; buy USO, (Oil); the Iranians will shut down the oil exports out of the Gulf and the price of crude will soar, possibly for months to come which could indeed lead to shortages of gasoline, gasoline rationing and........if things get out of control, declaration of martial law with the gov’t having free reign to kill people as it chooses. A real formula for disaster.

Israel should communicate to Russsskies they have at least three nuclear missiles with Moscow’s name on them and for them to butt out. Actually though I think Putin could care less if Israel and Iran get into a war. It will make Russian oil shoot up in price

IOW This is for public consumption and to cater to Iran but Russia would not lift a finger to stop Israel

Iran is also about 1/5th size of the continental US in land mass. That makes them about twice the size of Texas.
