Federal investigators said Tuesday they uncovered gross mismanagement at the Dover Air Force Base mortuary that cares for Americas war dead after whistleblowers reported horror stories of lost body parts, shoddy inventory controls and lax supervision.
The former mortuary commander and two other senior officials have been disciplined but not fired -- in response to separate investigations conducted by the Air Force Inspector General, the Secretary of the Air Force and the Office of Special Counsel, an independent federal agency that also received the whistleblower complaints.
The grisly findings at Dover echo a similar scandal at another hallowed repository for the militarys dead, Arlington National Cemetery. An Army investigation last year documented cases of misidentified remains at Arlington, dug-up urns that had been dumped in a dirt pile and botched contracts worth millions of dollars. The Army Criminal Investigation Command and the FBI are now conducting a criminal probe there.

FInd whoever is responsible, and who knowingly did it,,, reduce them to PFC, and send then to the next deploying grunt unit.
Hooah
Nice how they only gave the commander a LOR instead of booting him from the military. The Air Force was always soft on their officers...
Wish I could completely disagree with you, Sarge - all I can say is that as a JAG and an SJA, I routinely had to remind commanders that their job was to lead, not to be liked. Problem is, at the end of the conversation, all I could say was, “but you’re the commander...”
Colonel, USAFR
It would appear the Navy is tougher on their command staff. I’ve witnessed things during my career by senior leadership that would make you cringe. And these folks are still leaders.
That said, if I went back in it would be on the commissioned side and I dearly cherish the Air Force and all the opportunity my service there has afforded me.
It may sound sick and twisted but there are times when I even miss Basic Military Training. ;)
I miss a lot of things from my past, but AF basic training isn’t one of them. I went through it in Apr-Jun 1960 and it was a joke. I understand that now it’s really toughened up and is more like the Army’s. Correct me if I’m wrong.
I went through in 1995 and it has toughened up even more since then.
Still not the Marines or Army but definitely more tactical.

Non judicial punishment which would be Basic at Fort Dix in January and Paris Island in August. Let them get to know the grunts up close and personal.
“Still not the Marines or Army but definitely more tactical.”
At risk of this turning into some kind of all service love fest, The USAF Basic apparently creates just what we need. They shouldnt waste a minute on anything that doesnt prepare them to do their job. Our planes fly,,, and the USAF never loses anymore,,ever! And anything wrong with the USAF sure doesnt have it’s roots in the enlisted ranks.
Marines arent airmen, and airmen aren’t marines. But in all honesty, a lot of soldiers and marines have been well served by the USAF enlisted ranks.
True that. But at least they are headed in the right direction.
Stop desecrating dead bodies,please.
These people died in the name of their country if for no other cause, maybe they got send somewhere for cynical reasons or to genuinely help safeguard American interests and free others.
Either way they deserve to be treated with the utmost respect.
