Over the last 80 years, what “emergency” have we had in the USA that a national announcement from the president would have made better? I can’t think of any. Emergencies and disasters are local and any warning system should address that (Stafford Act comes to mind”.
I think what this will turn into is region-wide Amber Alerts or other BOLO type messages, gradually morphing into Federal PSA announcements about seat belts, smoking, and food safety.
Nothing here in Oregon yet...

1973 - Mid-East war, when Moscow threatened to back Egypt against Israel.
(most folks don’t know this was much more serious than 1962, as U.S. had nukes on highest alert ever.)
