So why is Paterno the object of everyone’s anger?

Easy. Paterno is no more guilty than the rest (save Sandusky, of course). But he is the most prominent. Nobody outside of Centre Country has ever heard of this Spanier guy.

The media is naturally going to beat on the biggest name. Makes it a bigger story.

Had McQueary intervened, things would have turned out much differently.

Additionally, he saw it with his own eyes and he knew that Sandusky was never brought to justice. I don't know how he kept from going to the police after a certain amount of time, regardless of the consequences.

McQueary is responsible for every victim after that shower. He had the power to stop it. Instead he called his dad, who called Paterno.

At a school where the football staff, and Paterno, prided themselves on focusing on young people, they've proven that's a lie. It's all about football, the PSU brand, and the almighty JoPa.

As much as that is a good theory, that is not the way big time football recruits. It is a pretty complicated and heavily regulated process contrary to general misconceptions in the media.

Im not talking about legal targets. If you watch ESPN or read FR, or any media in between, the only thing being talked about is Paterno. He isnt the guy who abused anyone. He isnt the guy who saw it happen and did nothing. He isnt the administrator who could have barred him from campus. He isnt the police chief who could have arrested him. But he is the head that everyone wants.

It’s been repeatedly said that the NCAA would never again impose the death penalty. This will be the test. If Penn State doesn’t receive it for multiple acts of sexual molestation (rape?) of its football players over many years by a member of its team faculty, then no school deserves it short of committing murder.

Would all the MORONS talking about the NCAA “Death Penalty” give it a rest.

This is about REAL CRIMES! Children were being RAPED by an evil fiend. PSU FAILED!!!!! Forget the stupid football program.

The NCAA is too busy going after schools where athletes sold jerseys for tatoos, took money from boosters, and took money from agents.

Go back and read every penn state thread for the last three days.

I have been on nearly all of them and I have been talking about McQuery, Spanier, and Schultz as well as Paterno. Regardless of what you may be hearing on Radio and TV, the internet in general and FR in particular have been inclined to let nobody we know the name of off the hook on this. Look at any newspaper article and read the comments there.

If you see only JoePa, it is because his name is the famous name and is in the title. That does not mean he stands alone, or that he bears the same level of scorn as Sandusky or McQuery.

People have had enough of the famous getting a pass for whatever they are involved in, and this time it ain't happening.

I read somewhere that Urban Meyer bought a house 4 miles from the Penn State campus several days ago. If that’s true the firing was in the works. I have a feeling they gave him a chance to resign and he didn’t take it. He wanted to finish the year.

Now that JoPA is gone, we are going to hear many things about this program, not necessarily related to this scandal.. 60 years in one program is too long which is like the person who never takes a vaction in 40 years on the job.. When they leave, you usually find out why they never went on vacation. It usually not good.

What SMU did pales in comparison to dozens of children being molested over decades. We’ve only heard from a small portion of the victims.

In 1982, a one-loss Penn State team got the sympathy vote from the East Coast media because of Joe Pa's "eminent" retirement and edged out an undefeated SMU team for the top ranking.

I was a senior at SMU when the investigation hit that led to the death penalty. As WFAAs Dale Hansen did the ambush on Coach Collins and other athletic officials, it did not take long for the house of cards to collapse. The entire administration and most of the Board were purged, along with the entire athletic department. There were no student demonstrations in support of Coach Collins - just the opposite.

Contrast that with the PSU reaction, before tonight, to a far more egregious situation - a rally for Paterno and an intention to let him coach through the rest of the season. The charges and timeline are shocking. PSUs officials seemed to not understand the gravity of the situation which only made the story grow and anger the nation.

I would not be shocked if this behavior was being ignored throughout Sandusky's career which started in 69 at PSU. The fact that it went from at least 1998 forward is bad enough.

It sounds like the adults are finally taking charge at PSU. This will become a classic case to study on how NOT to manage a crisis.

I proudly pass the "worst college football scandal EVER" torch to Penn State. Enjoy. It will take quite an effort to top this.

The Demorats made them hire Zero and they didn’t like it a bit. They knew they were being used.

because he is the only person almost everyone following this story had heard of before it happened. From reading about it, he IS on a list of people who deserve considerable attention, however.
