A Harrisburg civil attorney who has been advising some of the alleged victims of former Penn State defensive coach Jerry Sandusky released a statement today about the board of trustees action last night firing coach Joe Paterno.
"The board of trustees got it wrong. They should have consulted the victims before making a decision on Mr. Paterno," Ben Andreozzi said. "They should have considered these victims watch TV and are aware of the students' reaction and may not want to be associated with the downfall of Mr. Paterno. The school instead elected to do what it felt was in its own best interest at the time. Isnt that what put the school in this position in the first place?"
Andreozzi is working with Let Go Let Peace Come In, an organization providing services to child sex abuse victims, which is offering free counseling to the alleged victims. "The way the Board reached its decision raises more concerns than the decision itself. There is no indication the Board considered the impact of the decision on the abuse victims," Andreozzi continued. "The school let the victims down once, and I think they owed it to the victims to at least gauge how the immediate termination decision would impact them as opposed to Mr. Paterno's resignation at the end of the year. These victims do not live in a bubble.
"They see the students reaction to the termination, and to think this does not weigh on their minds would be naive."
This went far beyond the rumor stage and JoePa continued to provide Sandusky with access to Penn State football facilities.
This is not a college football scandal about alumni buying a car for a football recruit, this is about a football coach sodomizing ten year old boys and the program covering up that fact.
I can assure you that there is plenty of outrage and disgust over this. A few thousand drunken idiots who would use any excuse to riot aren't representative of most fans and alumni.
Interesting that LGLPCI has announce a new fund drive centered on 'helping the Sandusky victims' ....
I think the attorney is saying that the firing of Paterno has made the situation more difficult for Sandusky’s victims to come forward. The victims, especially in the insulated world of Penn State and it’s peripheral communities, may not want to be smeared as the reason why King Joe has fallen. They may also have justifiable concerns for their safety and their families’ safety.
One thing I’ve heard is that they are planning to have a mass exodus during the game in protest of removing Paterno.
One thing’s for sure, if the game does go on, Saturday, surreal won’t even begin to describe it.
Penn State replaces ousted head football coach Joe Paterno with Tom Bradley, above left, a longtime assistant who also coached with Jerry Sandusky,
Tom Bradley is the interim head coach. It is believed that when the season is over a new head coach will be hired and will be asked to totally replace the coaching staff. Similarly "flushing out" the Athletic Department and Security Department is neccesary.
Note the word 'may'. He is grandstanding.
No, the Trustee’s needed to fire Paterno, no need to consult anyone.
Every agency under Schultz needs to be flushed. Or at least fully reviewed for who he put in.
JoePA is complicit.
He knew what happened, He saw the guy still hanging around with an office and little kids present. When he saw the guy still hanging around with kids he should have gone to the cops.
That’s the stuff legends are made of.
Get real!!!!
Joe’s not whining, he knows.
A pretty said state of affairs (no pun intended).
No, the students don’t ‘get it’ they are blaming the wrong people.
Everybody thinking JoePa is being unfairly criticized should ask themselves how they’d feel if they were getting raped and all JoePa did about it was report it to his superiors once and never even follow up enough to find out if he should at least fire the guy that was raping you. JoePa did the absolute minimum, which really in a situation like this is way too little, yeah he didn’t let the info rot on his desk, but that’s all he did. I’m not necessarily saying he should have been fired immediately, but I’m not going to go so far as to say firing him was wrong. And anybody that thinks criticizing him is wrong is a flaming idiot.
That’s what dh told me when I asked him about it .
How do you know that the NCAA isn’t in on this up to its eyeballs?
How does an assistant like Sandusky NOT get a bazillion job offers after helping architect two national titles at PSU?
The guy was cast off the island for a decade in college football. What’s a little sicker is that he VOLUNTEERED to be a high school coach. Was he recruiting? If he was, for whom?
Where was the NCAA on this guy given he just disappeared. After watching Ohio State go scot free, what makes you think anything at all will happen here?
How far does all this go?
I don’t know why the coverup should be so surprising to anyone. College towns have a long history of protecting their local stars.
Years ago an MSU basketball star and now former NBA star (I’d have to ask her which one) trashed my sister’s car with a baseball bat and kicked in the door of her off campus apartment. He was found not guilty despite the whole thing being caught on security cameras. MSU paid for the damage and that was the end of it.
Just assumed since you hail from the great state of Pennsylvania you would be a Penn State fan and that you were quite concerned that Penn State might have to pony up some money!
No but my brother and sister in law both got their bachelor’s and master’s there. I wanted warmer weather. I didn’t even apply to Penn State. I had no interest in attending there. I just think it is a sad situation all around.
The pictures I have seen on mostly don’t look like from the height of the riot.
I think it was more like 20,000 actually. It was packed down multiple blocks of Beaver Avenue.
Yeah, I agree!!!
Penn State should not play any more games this season. The actions of these perps have far reaching consequences - even for players and fans. This school should mourn the ruined lives of these victims.
