A controversial scheme to build a mosque, supermarket and housing has led to both jubilation and resentment since it was given the green light by city councillors.
They approved outline planning permission for the mosque and houses at the old Boultham Park Dairy on Monday and the Islamic Association of Lincoln First says it is aiming to unveil detailed plans in the near future.
Dr Tanweer Ahmed, trustee of the association, told the Echo he is thrilled that the quest for a purpose-built place of worship can now progress to the next stage.
"I am very happy and very pleased with the decision," he said. "We have worked so long for this.
"Now, we need to apply for full planning approval which may take three to six months.
"The cost of building the mosque very much depends on its design and what is acceptable to planners and the Islamic association.
"My anticipation is the cost will be over £500,000."
The City of Lincoln Council received a petition against the proposals which had more than 500 names.
And opponents still remain concerned about traffic congestion and flood risk.
Chairman of Boultham Residents' Association Jean Flannery told the Echo: "Whatever the highways department says, we believe there may be more problems with traffic than we can imagine.
"We will be looking at the full details of what is proposed to see what might possibly mitigate the impact of all this on the community."
Mum-of-one Sophie Barker, 38, of Boultham Park Road, Lincoln, questioned the view of highways officers.

It has been said else where on this site tonight that Islam is not going to take over the UK. Well, what’s this then? Looks like a take over to me!

97% of the UK is NOT Muslim. And one mosque aint gonna change that. Last I looked, they arent going to parachute more Muslims into the town.

I will now and forever disagree with your take on the Islamic agenda...in the UK or any nation inwhich they infiltrate...the agenda does not change nor the march to that.
I’ll assume you understand that their Mosques are their bases in whatever country they enter. I’ll also assume you understand what that means to a muslim...who does not ‘think nor reason’ as those outside their fascist ideology.
They see thru the veil of islam/koran/brainwashing and it is not rational nor reasonable for any citizen of any country to even imagine they think as the citizens host country...or that they will ever do so... They do not.
You are seriously mistaken to imagine their numbers will not increase...they always do... their history in every country attests to that fact.
And yes, of course the US is marked for a dhimmi state...
Take a look at states where there are large numbers of muslims...and the wait is on.....

“If the Muslim population of the UK were to continue growing at an annual rate of 6.7% (as it did between 2004 and 2008,) its share of the total UK population would rise from just under 4% in 2008 to 8% in 2020, to 15% in 2030 and to 28% in 2040, finally passing 50%in 2050.”

The global number of Muslims is expected to jump by 35% in the next 20 years, growing twice as fast as the non-Muslim population, according not to these “Eurabia mongers,” but to the famous US Pew Forum, which published projections Muslim population growth between 2010 and 2030.

I love Ferguson, but he is an economic historian. Not a statistician. All these projections are open to severe criticism. Frankly the idea that Britain 2050 will be a nation of 65-75 million people, which is believable, but that 30-40 million of those will be Muslim, is laughable. The leaps from 15% to 28% in just a decade is equally nonsense.
