Perry Can Win If Leadership Trumps Debates
Big Government ^ | Nov. 12, 2011 | Ken Blackwell and Ken Klukowski

Gov. Rick Perry stated at the outset of his presidential campaign that he is running for president based on his principles and leadership accomplishments, not his oratorical skills. Media focus on his debate missteps deliberately ignores Perry's record and charisma.

America's third president - Thomas Jefferson - was a lousy public speaker. He was literally a genius, and his singular eloquence as a writer is seen in his prose in the Declaration of Independence and other writings.

But Jefferson was no speaker, so much so that he only gave a couple speeches in his entire two-term presidency. He was so bad that he fulfilled his constitutional requirement to give an annual State of the Union by sending a written document to Congress.

This media obsession with the cosmetics of Perry's presentation willfully ignores the substance of his agenda. Perry's proposals on fundamental overhauls on tax reform, energy, healthcare, and re-empowering the states through federalism could make him a transformational president if he enacts them.

These proposals arise from a massive public record. An Air Force captain, Perry is the only major candidate with military experience. And his subsequent quarter-century of elected office includes a decade as governor enacting tort reform, education reform, and business-friendly policies.

I didn’t know Thomas Jefferson ran Godfather’s Pizza. But answer this, what share of our economy are the states that encompass the Louisiana purchase?

To compare Perry to Thomas Jefferson is sad.

“Does it take a genius to realize that that bill was unvetoable?”

Could you please cite the provision of the bill that required the governor to state that all people who opposed In State Tuition for Illegal Aliens were “Heartless?”

It’s kind of a longshot now for him to pass Cain, Romney and Newt, but it could happen.

I'm not so sure.

Romney has no support from the base. He only gets votes if he's the last man standing and he won't be.

Cain is likeable, but inept. He is the anti-candidate candidate. He hasn't put in any effort to understand the issues and talks in sound bites. I have a hard time believing he will get votes when people ask "do I want him to be POTUS?".

Gingrich is shooting up in the polls picking up Cain supporters and Perry supporters. However, at some point people will come to understand he is not a small govt conservative.

Perry is the logical location for the Bachmann, Santorum and Paul supporters. He is unequivocal Pro-Lifer and is a small govt conservative. He has built a good organization and has the advt. money to get his message out.

I don't know what % of voters watch the debates, but I don't think it's that high. When Perry responded quickly to his "oops" he probably negated most of the damage. We won't have a good feel for who our candidate will be until after FL & SC.

Perry has built Texas.
We own the house, we own the senate, we have redistricted.

Can you explain Cains history at Godfathers Pizza to us?

I'm wondering why a guy who has a history in the business community doesn't have huge financial support from the business community. He worked at a higher executive level for large multinational corporation. Where are the big money donors from the people who knew him in private business?

Donors to Bush absent for Perry “WASHINGTON — Fewer than one in 10 of the top fundraisers who helped George W. Bush shatter records for presidential campaign money in 2000 and 2004 have donated to Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s 2012 presidential campaign, a Houston Chronicle analysis of Federal Election Commission data has found.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney holds a wide lead over other GOP presidential hopefuls in donations received from the 939 “Pioneers” and “Rangers” who raised at least $100,000 each for the Bush presidential efforts.”……

He actually held up pretty well against McCain, but that’s no surprise. His performances against Hillary in the primaries were well “managed” as well.

If Perry is the nominee, he will sink under the media pressure, that is a guarantee. Thankfully, the electorate knows this, and that is why he is dropping like a stone after all these debates.

...and the GOP faithful know that. He’s done.

I don't think anyone has voted yet.

Conservatives had better hope Perry bounces back. Look at what's left.

Romney a northeast rino.

Cain an inexperienced blowhard with a Rat wife.

Newt a govt is good if I'm managing it Pub.

I'm with Perry. I can look at 10 years history and see a conservative record. Also, I see a man who served in the military. I see a man who loves God and isn't afraid to say so.

Anyone defending Perry at this point is irresponsible. In the future, their fitness as analysts would be questioned.

I've posted numerous times why I think Perry is our guy and why I'm sticking with him. Who do you like and why?
