Perry Can Win If Leadership Trumps Debates
Big Government ^ | Nov. 12, 2011 | Ken Blackwell and Ken Klukowski

Gov. Rick Perry stated at the outset of his presidential campaign that he is running for president based on his principles and leadership accomplishments, not his oratorical skills. Media focus on his debate missteps deliberately ignores Perry's record and charisma.

America's third president - Thomas Jefferson - was a lousy public speaker. He was literally a genius, and his singular eloquence as a writer is seen in his prose in the Declaration of Independence and other writings.

But Jefferson was no speaker, so much so that he only gave a couple speeches in his entire two-term presidency. He was so bad that he fulfilled his constitutional requirement to give an annual State of the Union by sending a written document to Congress.

This media obsession with the cosmetics of Perry's presentation willfully ignores the substance of his agenda. Perry's proposals on fundamental overhauls on tax reform, energy, healthcare, and re-empowering the states through federalism could make him a transformational president if he enacts them.

These proposals arise from a massive public record. An Air Force captain, Perry is the only major candidate with military experience. And his subsequent quarter-century of elected office includes a decade as governor enacting tort reform, education reform, and business-friendly policies.

It wasn't a nice try, it was the facts of the matter. Perry has plunged in the polls, and just keeps dropping. He's in single digits.

Look at the chart on intrade, for example. He's only at 5 percent now, and he was at 10 before the debate. Look at the running chart during the last one, where he had his major brain fart. It's something to behold.

He's done, and every debate shows further weakness in someone positioning themselves for the leader of the free world.

Bless your heart for being so thoughtful and putting it there along with your comment.

If he’s so down and out you shouldn’t be wasting your time piddling with such stuff.

Could you please cite the provision of the bill that required the governor to state that all people who opposed In State Tuition for Illegal Aliens were “Heartless?”

What do you call someone who wants to punish a child for the crimes of their parents?

The problem of illegal immigration will continue to be a negative for the Pubs and a big plus for the Rats as long as our side holds to absolutist positions that won't gain popular support. Conservatives are cast as racists and minorities are drawn to the Rat plantation because this problem is not being solved.

He used to be the front runner, near the 40’s. Now he’s at 5 percent.

Ain’t going to happen, unless there’s a major shakeup among the other candidates. Frankly, I don’t think he has the fire in the belly for the job. His wife does, but that’s not the same thing.

Plain and simple, the GOP will lose w/o Perry as their candidate. The other candidates, in their haste to take shots at Perry, have shot themselves in the foot.

If Cain is the nominee the women’s vote and the Hispanic vote are in jeopardy.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney holds a wide lead over other GOP presidential hopefuls in donations received from the 939 “Pioneers” and “Rangers” who raised at least $100,000 each for the Bush presidential efforts.”……

I'm not surprised. Romney is the typical rino. Perry is everything these guys aren't. What is surprising is the business community hasn't supported Cain in a big way. He's one of theirs. They should know him.

Perry has made it clear, again and again that Texas finds itself in an untenable situation due to the feds.

People that don’t like Perry, unfairly lay the blame on him and Texas.

Gov. Perry came in around 30% on the power of GOP voter distaste for Romney (Romney is still polling around 23-25%). Perry’s been beat up badly, yet he’s still standing (and has $$ in the bank and super PACs at the ready). As you have witnessed, things change.

I think in some cases it's a personality contest. They aren't looking at what the ultimate goal is and take it personally when you don't like their guy.

Good point. Cain taught NRA the power of lobbying.

I know with all my heart that Perry is all about shutting down EPA regulation nnd that he is all about cutting regulations form the Dept of energy.

He messed up hard by having a brain fart, but his record stands pure.

You really believe that B/S? You ILLEGAL lovers are really something. Our great Country is going to hell in a hand basket and you want it to continue in that direction evidently. If the parents are ILLEGAL, their children are ILLEGAL. Period. No more anchor babies. ALL ILLEGALS need to back to where they came from and apply for citizenship here in America the LEGAL way if they wish to live here. What part of ILLEGAL do you not get?

Has the debate flubs helped him raise cash? Do you know or have an idea of his current campain finances?

John McCain is a skillful politician and is gregarious and in personal conversation he is outgoing and enjoyable to talk to. But he is one of the least intelligent people ever to be a nominee for President of a major party. He had difficulty getting through the Naval Academy and through flight school and graduated from both out of deference to his father and grandfather. He was a poorer student, graduating far lower in his class than Governor Perry, whose mediocre grades in animal science at Texas A & M have been much mentioned. However, Governor Perry did get a degree in science whereas John McCain had great difficulty with science and math courses. Also Governor Perry did not have the difficulty that John McCain did in getting through flight school and never crashed a plane as John McCain did more than once. John McCain has never, as far as I know, shown any skill in debating. If I am wrong feel free to point out an example.

John McCain performed well as a supply officer, which is to say he was good at getting stuff for his guys within the politics of the Navy. He was good as a congressional liason where political skill of his sort is an asset. His executive experience that he touted during his campaign was based on what he referred to as commanding the largest air squadron in the navy but precisely because it is such a large squadron and has been for a long time it has a well developed management cadre and did not require any management skill from him to keep on running as it had been running for quite a while.

Hillary Clinton won more primaries after debating the One than she did before debating him. Can you name a debate between her the One where she was outdone? Again, can you name an example where the One showed actual skill in a debate?
