Perry Can Win If Leadership Trumps Debates
Big Government ^ | Nov. 12, 2011 | Ken Blackwell and Ken Klukowski

Gov. Rick Perry stated at the outset of his presidential campaign that he is running for president based on his principles and leadership accomplishments, not his oratorical skills. Media focus on his debate missteps deliberately ignores Perry's record and charisma.

America's third president - Thomas Jefferson - was a lousy public speaker. He was literally a genius, and his singular eloquence as a writer is seen in his prose in the Declaration of Independence and other writings.

But Jefferson was no speaker, so much so that he only gave a couple speeches in his entire two-term presidency. He was so bad that he fulfilled his constitutional requirement to give an annual State of the Union by sending a written document to Congress.

This media obsession with the cosmetics of Perry's presentation willfully ignores the substance of his agenda. Perry's proposals on fundamental overhauls on tax reform, energy, healthcare, and re-empowering the states through federalism could make him a transformational president if he enacts them.

These proposals arise from a massive public record. An Air Force captain, Perry is the only major candidate with military experience. And his subsequent quarter-century of elected office includes a decade as governor enacting tort reform, education reform, and business-friendly policies.

Slick Rick has his own Solyndra problem. Actually several. He’s a leader in cash handouts to corporate welfare recipients.

Got proof?

I know there was that little state program that promoted such green things.
What was the GDP % of payout to that?

I won’t claim your a$$hat fraud of a candidate, that’s for damned sure. Why do I want to support a blended clone of Bush, Romney and McCain? Conservatives deserve a helluva lot better than cronyboy La Raza Rick.

What's the old legal saw: "If you have the facts, pound the facts. If you have the law, pound the law. If you have neither the facts nor the law, pound the table."

Therefore- my candidate is lousy at debates, so debates don't matter. Until he wins a debate, of course, then debates will be the most important thing.

Blah, blah, blah...

So it boils down to a matter of degree with you? Fraud is fraud. It doesn’t matter if Obama engages in it or Perry. On second thought, it does matter. I expect it from leftists, not people who claim to be conservatives.

Ken Blackwell turning to denial to deal with the trauma of Perry’s collapse. Forget it, Ken. Perry is all hat, no cattle. He can’t beat Obama by runing $500 million in ads and hiding from debates, and the GOP faithful know that. He’s done.

I will state things simply.

I think Cain is a BS artist with no record other than a shabby one

If brains were weapons, Thomas Jefferson would have an aircraft carrier fleet, and Rick Perry would have a water pistol.

That’s my point.

After we are done analyzing Cains record, let’s have a look at Newts.

Perry can handle Obama, if America is intellectually honest.
And probably if it is not.

I guess you’re not so swift about expressing yourself.

I won’t hold it against you. I’m sure you’re plenty smart.

He was for a electric fence on the Rio Grande that “Will Kill You”, He wanted “real guns with real bullets”
But now his border plan mirrors Perry’s

What’s up with that?

Just out of curiosity it would be good to know when the One in the Oval Office exhibited winning debating skills. Can you give an example? My reaction to him from the outset was that he habitually puts himself on all sides of every issue witihout expressing any firm principled actual decisions. Can this be characterized as skillful debating? If so, was there an actual debate in which he showed such skill?

Republicans who want to win won’t vote for Perry.

But I can see Democrats crossing over.

No matter how bad the economy, if Perry acted like he did in that debate, we’d lose. We’d lose house seats, senate seats.

We don’t want to lose.

Remember when they said that Christine O’Donnell would hurt other candidates? (they were wrong, but still)

Think of what would happen if Perry did that against Obama.

It would be impossible to argue for Perry and against Obama.

That was the single worst debate performance in tv history.
s
Anyone defending Perry at this point is irresponsible. In the future, their fitness as analysts would be questioned.

Santorum was hurt by being local to a Republican incumbent, Specter.

These pundits are suggesting that we take a car with no brakes on a cross country trip. It could work out fine, but typically, you die in a fiery crash.
