***...communal living is doomed to failure.****
Remember all the hippie communes that sprouted up near TAOS NM back in the 1960s? I believe they all collapsed.
I was in DC today. The DC OWS group is about a dozen tents strong that is it. Loud mouths “look at me types”, but not as large as the media would have you believe. If I can get the photo I took from the bell tower off of my camera I will post it.
Ummm... Not quite... The English Crown had absolutely no input into the communal arrangement developed by the Plymouth Colonists. Ever heard of "The Mayflower Compact"? That was the written arrangement form the communal experiment, and was done on the voyage over to the colony site, by the colonists themselves. The Crown never even heard of the document, let alone had any input into it...

let’s not bicker and argue about who killed who... this is supposed to be a happy occasion.
freedom is a natural state of being... everything else goes against those laws. capitalism is the closest form of government to protect those natural laws of keeping what one works hard for.

I have to wonder then who was that inspired them to adopt a collectivist model for their community? They just didn’t pull the idea out of thin air.
No, they did not pull it out of thin air. During the Reformation, there had been a number of equally unsuccessful attempts at combining religious fervor with collectivism. The Hussites come to mind here, although they weren't alone.

Thanks for the mention of the Hussites. I’m going to do some research on them.
