Let’s personalize this a little.
If your son were molested by this guy years after this situation occurred, you would not hold the the other people somewhat responsbile?
Now a little moral question, what would you fail to report for fear of a lawsuit or losing your job? Rape, murder, child rape?
Re: “Now a little moral question, what would you fail to report for fear of a lawsuit or losing your job? Rape, murder, child rape?” If I saw it personally, I’d pick up the phone and call 911 on the spot. Or get a weapon and stop it myself, assuring I was 100 percent sure. As shown by the armed citizen who intervened in the Gabrielle Giffords shooting, you make 100 PERCENT sure before you squeeze a trigger. The man did, and it turned out the “armed” “bad guy” had just wrested the actual bad guy’s weapon away from him.
Ever hear of Tawana Brawley and Al Sharpton? Sharpton acted on hearsay evidence and began to accuse people of rape, and he got himself one heap big lawsuit. Remember Duke Lacrosse and the Durham Dirtbag? How about the Amiraults? Yes, if you SEE something wrong you report it on the spot but you also make sure you don’t make a false accusation. There is a moral obligation on that side as well.
