Hercules was adopted by a couple in Hillsboro, Ohio, who saw the ailing 135-pound St. Bernard at the animal shelter and feared he would be euthanized.

Six hours later, the heroic canine repaid his new owners' kindness when a dark-clothed thug broke into the couple's house.

The man had cut the phone and cable lines running to the home of Rubert and Elizabeth Littler and had sneaked into their basement.

Duke [half Golden and half Yellow lab] took this for a signal to come into the house for he burst through the screen ran to my chair and put his head in my lap, his tail pounding the floor like mad.

Had exactly the same dog when I lived in Alabama. He was patiently waiting to be let in at the back screen...when there was a loud clap of thunder.

He came thru the wooden-framed screen door like a locomotive. The whole door had to be replaced...

Nice story, but it seems from the owner’s words that he’s still not absolutely sure he’ll keep the dog even though he’s “earned the right to stay” Huh?

It is a sad state of affairs for dogs. A lot of owners can’t or won’t keep the animal after giving it a home :(

Great story. They have a solution for that now — screens with a velcro closure that allow your pets to go in and out as they please. They advertise them on TV all the time.

A half Golden/half yellow Lab is a terrific dog. My cousin had one.

"Dogs just know things. Don’t know how or why, but they do."

My two mini-dachshunds have 'built-in' clocks! When it's dinner time for them at 5 PM - they let me know - loud & clear!

Magslinger posted a link to a Twilight Zone episode, which I thought was interesting! I had got that story in an email a couple of years ago, and when I saw this thread, I was able to go back and find it.
