Whenever congress gets stuck, they start complaining and pass the buck. Or kick the can down the road:
With a little over a week left to reach a deal, members of the Congressional deficit reduction panel are looking for an escape hatch that would let them strike an accord on revenue levels but delay until next year tough decisions about exactly how to raise taxes.Under this approach, the panel would decide on the amount of new revenue to be raised but would leave it to the tax-writing committees of Congress to fill in details next year, well beyond the Nov. 23 deadline for the panel itself to reach an agreement. That would put off painful political decisions but ensure that the debate over deficit reduction stretched into the election year.

Yep,
Just another edition of Stump the chump......
At this point, just as in countries like Greece, raising taxes will only decrease tax revenue and reduce the size of the “legal” economy.
There is no way out of our mess. Even if they drastically reduce government spending, all the people employed by that spending would be laid off, increasing the unemployment rate. The government and the private sector now have a symbiotic relationship. Hurt one and you hurt the other. Help one and you do it at the expense of the other.
...and Medicare “cuts”.
Fire them all! No re-election for any of them!
I’ll give them a clue. Put the 25 million un/underemployed back doing the jobs they did before everything you buy was made somewhere else. Then they will be paying taxes, buying things and not being paid unemployment and all will be well again.
Huh? I don’t see that at all. The goal is no tax increases. If they agree to raise taxes, you’ll whine about how they are sellouts and the “Stupid Party.” Sounds to me like they are standing up.
“There is no way out of our mess”.
Not true. The Scriptures specifically say in 2 CHRONICLES 7:14 “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
We talk a lot about politics and political fixes look for a leader that can put things right, but we all know that an insidious moral rot (called variously “Progressivism”, “Liberalism”, or what the Bible calls “Covetousness”) is at the heart of America’s problems. We still have time to turn things around, but the window of opportunity is closing fast.
"Huh? I dont see that at all. The goal is no tax increases. If they agree to raise taxes, youll whine about how they are sellouts and the Stupid Party. Sounds to me like they are standing up."
Once again, you are ill-informed, unfortunately. There wil be massive tax increases on practically everybody that will automatically go into effect starting January, 2013 if the "Bush tax" rates are not extended- where is there any indication here that the Repubs are preventing that from happening?
Look at Ezekiel 38-39. Look at Revelation. Look at all the bible prophesy.
What I am talking about is the end. And I think we are about there. And considering the rebirth of Israel in 1948 and the bible’s declaration that “this generation” shall not pass away until all these things come to pass, I’d be shocked if we make it to 2018 before the beginning of the Tribulation.
I’m not setting dates. Rather, I am recognizing the times and seasons. What is happening and will happen is of truly epic proportions. It is only because we are not seeing it on a movie screen that we do not fully comprehend just how serious a situation the world is in right now.
This is why everything I am doing right now is toward the goal of being so self sufficient by that time that I will be spending very little money on anything and be as self sufficient as possible. We’ll see how it goes.
You could well be right. The approaching disaster will be truly biblical in scope.
The last time we were at this point was in 1938, but there were no nukes then.
No doubt it will be something that results in them getting the best tee times and invitations to the most tony DC cocktail parties. The DNC, er, I mean Mainstream Media will also gush with glowing reports about their "moderate, courageous, and visionary leadership"!
It will be a Win/Win for everyone (except the American People)!
“The Stupid Party ready to be played for chumps again?”
And getting ready to play all of us for chumps again. Next November we need to get rid of all the new ones that voted for the debt bill as well as the old ones. We have a new supposedly conservative US rep who has already been co-opted by the leadership. We are going to try to get him out and get a tea partier in next year.
Pull the triggers!!! The automatic cuts are the best available option.
We’ll see who’se ill-informed.
Ridiculous. Ending just the EITC would save $600B over ten years. Ending the War on Poverty would save $10T over ten years. Ending the Department of Education would save $1.5T over ten years. There are so many easy targets there is no excuse for not finding $1.2T.
Changing the AMT so that EVERYBODY pays a minimum income tax of 10% would cause the 47% that currently pay nothing to finally care about the cost of government. It would also allow elimination of ALL the higher rates so nobody got hit with a marginal rate of 35% ... or even a 15% rate.
