How a pipeline was defeated: actors, activists and one key conversation

In the end, it came down to a conversation between two of the most powerful people in the world.

Earlier this week, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spoke with President Barack Obama about a pipeline set to run from Alberta’s oil sands down through the U.S. Midwest to reach refineries on the Texas coast of the Gulf of Mexico.

...

“It’s blatant politics,” said David Wilkins, former U.S. ambassador to Canada, in an interview Friday. Mr. Wilkins lobbied for Keystone on behalf of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers. “It’s politics at its worst. It was a move by the president to placate a certain wing of his party and I think it was a real travesty.”

Mr. Wilkins pointed out that Mr. Obama had passed up 20,000 Keystone jobs to “protect one job, his own.”

Every GOP candidate should be uttering this line every chance they get.

All the local newspaper editors in this area backed Obama on this, just like on everything else. It always amazes me that every little daily paper in Podunk, Nowhere thinks it looks cool to echo the NYT. They’re not going to hire you, guys.

...and everyone’s price of gas and home energy will soar.

Business and America will be starved of energy while China and developing nations get the benefit. Its all brilliant Obama politics.

Business and the majority need to speak out!

Most people seem to not get this - the pipeline may be more about increasing Canadian Co oil profits at THE COST OF PRICE INCREASES in 15 midwest states.

I’m all for pipelines, but NOT if it will increase my fuel prices.

Perhaps a main Obama motive is that Obama wants to damage America in any way he can.

This delay both damages America’s economy and makes oil available to a commie country, China.

Obama is a Saul Alinsky style communist.

I don’t give a darn who profits from this venture, but I do care that the government has seen once again fit to insert itself into private commerce. After three years of deliberations, this bunch of weenies decides they know better than the builders how and where the proposed pipeline should be built.

Fair enough, but my main point was the likelihood that the pipeline will actually INCREASE fuel/gasoline costs. That’s why I don’t support it.

Agree.

Does anyone have a sound-bite or a video of this?

It has been “understood” for some time that the oil was to be diverted elsewhere.

Balance of payments, you know.

But the dupes and the hopey-changey’s will still vote for a clown. No way he will allow cheaper energy into this country.

As I have stated before - everything I need to know about that guy in the WH was foretold the day he bowed to the Arab king.
