BETTENDORF, Iowa Gov. Rick Perry is proposing to bring a little Texas to Washington with a part-time citizen Congress that doesnt meet so often, and whose members earn only half of what they make now.
The Republican presidential hopeful will also call for an end to lifetime appointments for federal judges, including members of the U.S. Supreme Court. And, as he proposed in his famous debate-night flub last week, Perry will vow to shut down three agencies of government.
This time he will remember all three: the U.S. Departments of Education, Commerce and Energy.
Washington doesnt need a new coat of paint, Perry told Iowa Republicans Monday night in advance of the policy proposal. It needs a complete overhaul.
The initiative will portray Washington as the impediment to a thriving, free-market based economy. According to a summary of the reform proposal, Perry will say that members of Congress should face criminal penalties for insider trading, a controversial practice highlighted in a recent investigation by CBSs 60 Minutes. He would also subject members of Congress to the Freedom of Information Act, from which they have remained exempt for decades.

Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback is expected to be with there with Gov. Perry during this roll out.
When I see Rick driving those terrorists going by the name of ‘LaRaza’ out of Texas the way Jesus drove the moneychangers out of the temple, and making it the law of Texas that the Mexican national anthem will NOT be taught in Texas schools, and sending the Texas Rangers to the border with orders to open fire on anyone entering Texas illegally from Mexico, I will be at the front of the parade promoting his candidacy.
I disagree. One of the major reasons Texas is in such good financial shape is because our legislature meets every two years for a limited amount of time. This gives them a very limited amount of time to steal everything that is not tied down. The media and the public are focused on the legislature when they are in session. Hyper focused. If they were in session all the time eventually people would be complacent.
The senators and state reps are forced to keep their butts in their districts. They do not end up living in Austin all the time and because of that there is no full time political culture in Austin. The pay is fairly low so many in the legislature work other jobs. This is a good thing.
Perry is on target with this idea. There is no reason for congress to be in session all the time. There is no reason for the huge support structure they have to be there all the time.
I think we should go a step farther and make it illegal for any member of Congress to accept money or anything else of value from anyone but someone legally registered to vote for them. This is true constituent representation. No more would a congressman from Texas be kissing the Florida citrus growers ass, for example, so they could raise moey and pass bills for such a special interest group who has absolutely nothing with Texas. This would mean there would be no more lobbyists, no more inside trading, no more donations from anyone but someone who could vote for the Senator or Representative. This would make all congressional elections local as they should be where the congress critter is forced to deal with his voters and his voters only.
We need some drastic measures in this country and this idea by Perry is fantastic. We in Texas already know it would work.
What's Perry's plan for this action???
I’m watching it now and Brownback is with him.
I can’t find it!
AHHHHHH
You make a cogent argument..but I don’t think that you can equate governing Texas with running the US. We need to not only stop the growth of the federal govt, but start taking it apart....and you need a full time legislature to do that..
What is his position on buying real estate, below market, off of contributors and then selling it for above market to a contributor, while both make money off of the state.
He didn’t say when he would try to do this but one of his points in the townhall was that Congressman/women need to go back and live with the laws they enact.
Live with the laws they enact and live with the constituents they serve.
I’m sure he was talking about after he/they get the government back to the size it should be.
He has proposed a -0- to low corporate tax rate to draw businesses back from overseas.
Gov. Perry’s proposals are REAL CHANGE I CAN BELIEVE IN!
Thanks for posting this. I caught him speaking with Glenn Beck earlier this morning when gave a few highlights from his upcoming speech.
Glenn called some of Perry’s ideas...”conservative porn” and they both LOL!
Voters should be able to grasp that when a politican makes a lot of money when serving in Congress, they are probably corrupt.
I like what he is doing. He is spearheading an agenda for people who are furious with Washington corruption and power.
I guess the fact that Congress is a Co-Equal branch of Government completely outside the authority of the President sailed right over the head of Perry and his supporters.
Perry is writing political checks here he cannot cash.

+1. What do you expect someone who tries to use Executive orders like a dictator to inject little girls with toxic substances in return for money? He’s merely repeating what his handlers have told him to get the gullible on board. People said Herman Cain’s 9-9-9 couldn’t pass because it would require the cooperation of the Legislature, yet someone thinks that this (hypothetical, since it would never happen without a civil war) dictatorial power grab would somehow be just cheesy. I realize that the overall intelligence of the Nation has gone down, but you’d think that people who label themselves “Conservative” would realize that what they’re conserving is the U.S. Constitution, and that LIMITS presidential powers. If Rick Perry wants to limit Government, he should start with the Executive branch in the state he holds. Ruling by Executive order (in exchange for campaign contributions, no less!)indicates that he’s the big Government liberal we all know him to be.
Wow!
Tell him to get the US out of the UN’s Agenda 21 treaty. That is the one of the worst influences and goals in our country and it works under cover so the public does not realize the ruse of taking over land and resources like water! Tell him to send the UN packing! Leaders can’t even run their own countries and some think they should rule the whole globe!
Newt ran a list of reforms as a “contract with America” and a bunch of canidates ran to help him get it passed and they all won. They swept liberals out of power for a long time.
Perry has a great position paper here. I hope he can boil it down into easy to understand chunks and bullet statements to campaign on. It is the weight of the Federal government that is making life so economically and socially hard in the US and making us non-competitive with foreign nations.
Finally, someone has a lot of great ideas and goals for actual reform in the Federal government that addresses reorganization corruption and waste but that doesn’t target seniors. A part time Congress has less time and money to dish out to corrupt friends. Politics constantly haunts the people of this country’s life and it’s driving people crazy. It would be great to take a break from worrying about how they can divide and conquer us and how they are going to screw us next for six months of the year!
Thanks for sharing this position paper with us! Best news I have had since the nomination election campaigning began. If he would talk on the fly as good as he knows, we would be in business!
One other thing, Obammy has re-staffed and radicalized the race hate department (of civil rights) in Justice. That has to be cleaned out. Holder testified to Congress, along with agents from that division that they don’t think civil rights laws apply equally to all Americans - whites are excluded.
You’re needed back on the threads defending your man, Johnnie.
