Penn State: The Banality of Collective Evil
Creators Syndicate ^ | 11-16-11 | Ben Shapiro

Posted on 11/16/2011 7:42:40 AM PST by UltraConservative

When the Israeli government captured Nazi mass murderer Adolf Eichmann, journalist Hannah Arendt was struck by the fact that Eichmann appeared to be a nondescript accountant type. He was not highly intelligent, and he did not appear to be particularly vicious. This led Arendt to the conclusion that anyone could, under the right ideological circumstances, become evil. Evil, she said, was banal.

This was an exaggeration of the case. Eichmann was a willing executioner of Hitler's orders; he identified deeply with Hitler's anti-Semitism. He was not just a cog in the system, he was an active system-maker.

But there is truth to the notion that anyone, given the right amount of self-interest, can be sucked into collaborating with evil -- or at least looking the other way. Read the rest here.

Why didn’t they come forward? Why were the boys silent? Oh oh. Hollywood. The old media. This isn’t rape, this is just intergenerational homosexual sex. If you want to bring someone in and slap them around for this, bring in all the Democrats. They were the enablers. And they let this kind of stuff go on to get campaign money from the homosexual lobby. What do the Democrats care if some old guy is sticking his penis into the anal canal of a 10 year old boy as long as the campaign contributions keep rolling in.

I don’t think this has much to do with politics. I was a Prosecutor for twenty-five years and prosecuted my fair share of these types of crimes (though none this public). Almost always it is the control exerted over the children by the abuser that keeps them from reporting it. It is a combination of “love (akin to the Stockholm syndrome)” and “fear” on behalf of the victim that stops them from reporting it.

We do these children a HORRIBLE disservice if we try to politicise this. Politics, RIght, Left, Middle ... never had anything to do with the many cases I prosecuted. We focus on politics and then we don’t focus on what is necessary to stop these horrible abusers.

The money quote:

The truly sickening part of the Penn State story isn't Jerry Sandusky. We expect truly evil people to be truly evil. The sickening part is the involvement of so many otherwise decent people. Evil isn't banal, but allowing evil to occur certainly is.

My theory is the janitor’s supervisor made a phone call and Sandusky was informed that he’d been caught. So he drove around the parking lot until 3 in the morning trying to figure out who had seen him. Now that janitor lives in a nursing home and has dementia. Coincidence?

McQueary tells Paterno and a few higher ups then lets it go. Was he threatened? His father says he wants to talk. I have a feeling he’s going to come out and start naming names. I hope he is in protective custody.

This coverup of molesting young boys is going to go to the very top. Or some people will disappear.

The D.A. disappeared in 2005, without a trace.

Did you stop homosexual child-rape in your area with your prosecution? Did you stop it in this nation? You do a HORRIBLE disservice to these children if you don’t politicize this. Who was it that made homosexuality a political issue? Why, that would be the Democrats, wouldn’t it? Making it a political issue brings it to the forefront of the nation’s interest. I applaud you for prosecuting homosexual child rapists, but I want this behavior to stop, and obviously, quietly prosecuting them isn’t working.

No. The truth is that anyone can be put into the position of choosing between good and evil. But everyone, once in that position, is free to choose. We have the power to choose, and we have the responsibility to choose wisely. I choose to listen to a Carpenter rather than to this reporter:

Matthew 18:6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

Unfortunately, (and I say that because of all of the massive good he had genuinely done), I think that this whole thing is a result of Paterno’s power at Penn State. Someone referred to rural PA as “feudal” in the sense that the coal mining company town mentality - and injuries - run very deep. And they are linked to a feudal time of social power structure that is brutal and survival oriented. The PA football players, coaches and administrators going back over 40 years grew up and lived in this environment, and took it to State, where Paterno ruled them from it as the Lord of the Manor.

Which gave Paterno an ego the size of Mt. Everest, not just for football successes, but morality as well. And apparently, Sandusky and perhaps others (perhaps a LOT of others) decided Paterno was the absolutely perfect cover for depraved evil. Because even when he found out (many years ago, apparently), Paterno was incapable of destroying his own personal morality empire by divulging what he knew.

And being a feudal system, that was it - there were no alternatives. It just ran forward, year after year, until someone, for some reason (I believe Democrats going after wobbly RINO women voters) decided that it was time to pop this bubble and direct the results into a meme for political advantage. Which is why you hear no fathers talking about this - only mothers. So there’s your targeted political market right there.

You have NO idea about what you speak. None. You are focusing on the wrong thing. These are crimes of violence. These kids desrve better than some nit politicizing child abuse. I am an expert on this and handled more cases than I can count. I’ve worked with experts galore. You? I await your credentials and experience. You know nothing.

No normal person condones child sex. But, let’s not rush to judgment or deny those allegedly involved in the Penn State matter the right to be considered innocent until proven guilty.

The press is ginning up the matter for its own needs of viewer ship with speculation and titillation. Keep an open mind or we will be hanging every kindergarten teacher who puts an arm around a crying kid. We need to draw some lines between normal caring and creepy sex.

And that’s like saying that abuse of a 10 year old girl has something to do with heterosexual sex. It has ZERO to do with it. These abusers are simply not wired right. That is why recidivism is so high among them. If you focus on the political, you miss the abuse. Abusing children sexually has NOTHING to do with one’s political leanings. Nothing at all. It has to do with a particular evil that is a-sexual and a-political.

Pedophiles and sexual deviants are very cunning——they operate well below the radar. They are very proud that they are able to gain the trust of (and to continually dupe) those around them.

As the saying goes: “Satan’s biggest trick is convincing people he does not exist.”

I can see hundreds of pages of crimes here——probably the bulk of L/E should center on Spanier and Sandusky personally. However the finances of Sandusky’s Seven Mile Foundation and Spanier’s use of PS finances are probably a hotbed of pedophilia activities. The IRS has targeted “non-profit foundations” as the locus classicus for fraud-—money laundering, tax evasion and other crimes.

......several questions demand answers: (1) Who granted Sandusky emeritus status after he retired in 1998? (2) Did Spanier and the Trustees approve his tenure? (3) Sandusky’s tenure gave him the keys to the locker room...and free rein to commit atrocities on young young boys in the PS showers........

It’s a mistake not to connect ex-PS Pres Graham Spanier and Sandusky. These are two very calculated predators——they did not operate in a vacuum. They were very calculated in everything they did.

NOTE Graham Spanier was fired from the PS president’s job along with JoePa........but Spanier and his wife are still on the PS payroll as profs. Hmmmmmm.....looks like ol’ Graham used “leverage” to stay on the payroll. Betcha wife-swappin’ gay lovin’ Graham has some mighty interesting stories to tell.

Ex-PS president Graham Spanier’s activities at Penn State (see more below) answers the one question on everyone’s mind——how did Sandusky got free rein in the PS showers with young boys? Did Spanier participate, as well? He certainly had an obsession with pederasty and moved hell and high water to give gay sex a foothold in PS.

MUST READ REFERENCE Paterno is getting the most attention, but FREEPER PA BOOKENDS posted this WRT Graham Spanier, the President – who was also fired.

Spanier’s degrees are in sociology with a chosen emphasis on human sexuality – wife swapping, adolescent sex, etc. Spanier asserted he wanted to make PSU the most LGBT-friendly school in the country. Spanier’s sponsorship gave Penn State the first gay fraternity in the nation. Under Spanier’s leadership, Penn State sponsored “the Tent of Consent” - all about gay sex, as well as C*ntfest (shocker).

Now, shortly after his arrival, Spanier tried to get rid of the legendary Paterno. Why? The football program was bringing in tons of money. Paterno was (and remained) one of the LOWEST paid college coaches in the country. M/M Paterno donated millions to the University. Spanier lost the battle, but one has to ask: why was Spanier so eager to get rid of Joe??

It becomes clearer and clearer why Spanier was out to ditch Paterno-—Spanier had to remove any and all obstacles in his path to solidifying Penn State as a protected pedophilia haven for Sandusky (and whoever else was involved in these heinous activities).

Now isn’t that interesting-——Spanier was approved for the president’s job DESPITE recommendations against it by those who knew of his push to normalize homosexuality. Those who voted to approve Spanier should also be investigated——they are in deep, deep doo-doo. What did Spanier offer for a vote to approve him for the job?

The facts are pretty clear on this case, so save the 'lets not rush to judgment' tripe.

We are not going to be sitting on a jury so people can see what the facts are and come to reasonable conclusions.

Being seen raping a 10 yr old boy is not the same as putting an arm around him.

I like a good conspiracy theory as much as the next guy, but asserting that Spanier was trying to create a “protected pedophilia haven” is a bit of a stretch without some proof.

You’re also making Paterno sound like an innocent bystander in all of this. Like he was the only thing standing in the way of the Penn State football showers become a playground for grown men and little boys.

Paterno HAD to know Sandusky’s “proclivities”. He had to. I don’t see how he couldn’t have given all the evidence thats come forward. Why did he let him still hang around? Why didn’t he move heaven and earth to make sure Sandusky was not let anywhere near the Penn State Football program, and totally sever ties with the Second Mile Foundation? This looks like a collective effort among ALL parties to just sweep this under the rug and hope it went away.
