CANBERRA, Australia (AP) - President Barack Obama insisted Wednesday that the United States does not fear China, even as he announced a new security agreement with Australia that is widely viewed as a response to China's growing aggressiveness.
China responded swiftly, warning that an expanded U.S. military footprint in Australia may not be appropriate and deserved greater scrutiny.

About 250 U.S. Marines will begin a rotation in northern Australia starting next year, with a full force of 2,500 military personnel staffing up over the next several years.
Obama called the deployment "significant," ..."It also allows us to meet the demands of a lot of partners in the region that want to feel that they're getting the training, they're getting the exercises, and that we have the presence that's necessary to maintain the security architecture in the region," Obama said.

On Thursday, Obama will address the Australian Parliament, then fly to the northern city of Darwin, where some of the Marines deploying to Australia next year will be based.

"It's important for them to play by the rules of the road," he said.
And he insisted that the U.S is not fearful of China's rise.
"I think the notion that we fear China is mistaken. The notion that we're looking to exclude China is mistaken," he said.
China was immediately leery of the prospect of an expanded U.S. military presence in Australia. Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Weimin said Wednesday that it was worth discussing whether the plan was in line with the common interests of the international community.

He keeps stirring and stirring. Anthing to create a crisis so he can declare martial law and cancel elections.

If we gave a shit what China thinks is appropriate we would have asked their permission. We did not.....
How many billions of our dollars is this going to cost us?
New airstrips, buildings, computer facilities and who will get the contracts.
If we can have pilots live in AZ bombing targets in the middle-east and going home for dinner - we can do whatever they would do there - here!
While I support Israel they are not nearly as trustworthy or loyal an ally as is Australia. Australia has been there for us in WW2, Korea, Vietnam, and again in Iraq in 1991 and then in Afghanistan. The Australians have never fired on an American naval vessel while the Israelis have. The Aussies also do not conduct industrial espionage against the US meanwhile Israel does and Israel also runs military intelligence operations against the USA.
During the period 1995-2003 Israel was the #1 country for conducting criminal acts of espionage against the USA.
One of their most brilliant operations is the ‘free’ program for Outlook users called ‘IncrediMail’ which is a spyware that harvests data from clueless users and sends it to a server farm in Haifa.
So, yes, Mr. Obama is right in that Australia is a far better friend than Israel is.
China will just set up more footprints and bases in South America. Bambi is a fool
Australia is a long way from China. What damned business is it of China’s what the Aussies do?
I had read someplace that on Chinese maps the continent of Australia is actually referred to as “New China”.
Many Asians believe that Australia is part of Asia and rightfully belongs to the people of Asia even though Asians have never had anything to do with the continent of Australia. They consider the white people of English descent who colonized the continent to be akin to invaders who have no right to be in the "oriental" Pacific. The Chi-Coms also covet New Zealand too.
... and the Little General struts and thumps his chest, looking for a WAR to call his own!
Oops! There goes the neighborhood! I love irony...
While we’re dumping Israel, we might just as well dump Taiwan.
I’m not saying to ‘dump’ Israel, but I’m also not going to wear rose colored glasses and pretend that they’re as good an ally as is Australia.
