Baiting the scammers
I am sorry, but how in the world do people fall for this tripe?
I mean they use the eversion of ‘To whom it may concern’.
At least when trying to convince me you are ‘madly in love’ with my profile or someone with the same FIRST name as yours died or someone with a name like yours and send it, ACTION addressed, to ‘undisclosed recipients’ that a very slight warning light would go off..
That is why I feel it is hard to ‘feel sorry’ for those that are duped because even the (potential) ‘scammer’ is basically telling you that you are about to get something for nothing....
Like that one Representative said (Jenrette) during ABSCAM - “I have larceny in my heart”....
One of the great quotes in a ‘gotcha’ world.
But it is difficult for me to be reminded of ABSCAM and not picturing Jenrette ‘doing’ Rita on the Capitol steps - at least that was her story and she was sticking to it..ha..
The cute young check-out girl waves me over to her register and I no-doubt sucked in my gut a bit. She looks at my two beautiful girls and says Oh how adorable - are you their Grandfather?. Sigh...

Know the feeling...
Few years back this SYT at a private car wash was galavanting around, smiling, generally looking good and my ‘old body’ was sparking up (I am constantly in a Halloween costume - I am a Pirate “Sunken Chest” and all)
She completely took the wind out of my sails when she said “Oh I see you served in the Vietnam War.
My grandfather was also there - Thank you for your service”.
“could be the plot to a movie”
I mentioned that to him when he told me his story.
He strikes me as someone who would have been an easy mark. A young American with money far from home and much too trusting of the pretty woman he had just met. I suspect she sized him up and planned the scheme with her boyfriend right from the start.
He’s lucky he’s not dead. He still shows evidence of the poison.
Sic semper horn dogs!
My get a clue moment was when the young women started opening doors for me. Of course getting the senior discount without asking was another wakeup call.

Another ‘clue’ be walking and approach two younguns, suck it in, get the big smile etc, start the strut and while passing one says to the other - “Oh that reminds me I have to call Grandpa...etc...”
On the senior discount, I normally carry enough of a ‘nasty disposition (people tend not to ‘screw’ with you) that ‘they’ are reluctant to automatically add it in.
Of course, when in the right mood you complain about NOT getting it and if they ask, kind of ‘growl’ out an answer, then when they are ‘cowering’ kind of smile and say thanks.
Keeps them ‘on their toes’.....<: <:
