I'm afraid I can't get too excited about the Newt Gingrich boomlet.
The field general of the Revolution of 1994 is suddenly out in front of the Republican presidential primary polls, but I can't help thinking that he will soon go the way of Rick Perry and Herman Cain.

In before the circular firing squad pic.
Please save and salt for future serving to Dana.
I’m not sold on Gingrich, but I sure as heck am not going to be getting any advice or predictions from Milbank.
Gingrich embraces Washington “insider” label (Video)

Stick a fork in Newt he is done.
No way he wins now.
All the 0 campaign will have to do if Newt is our nominee is run this clip in the swing states the last week in Oct 2012.
Clear evidence that the lefty machine is afraid of Obama going mano a mano with Newt in debate.
With Perry not gaining traction, conservatives are left with three subpar choices... Romney the liberal, ugly half-baked Newt and the empty suit, Herman Cain. Not one of those three candidates truly represents conservatism and not one can beat Obama.
If Romney is the nominee, look for a 3rd party candidate to run on the right with heavy support from the TP.
Think about this. If Newt sdoesn’t last that leaves us with Romney
That is the thought that may make Newt last. At least it does with me.
Romney is Obama lite.
With all his baggage, Newt is the better choice.
Milbank: Why Newt Gingrich won’t last (He’s not a conservative)
But Romney is?!
Oh by all means let’s define our debate by what Dana Millbank says and by what CBS News says. After all, we know they think like us and they have nothing but our best interests in mind.
Yeah, right.
Methinks Dana is scared that conservatives are so itching for an Obama Newt debate that they will over look his past sins and support him anyway.
Not saying that’s the case, but i am saying that THIS FEAR IS PRECISELY WHAT MOTIVATES MILLBANK to write this story. There is no other reason he would. Period.
Read the article. Newt may be more liberal than Romney.
Boy, am I red in the face.
He did this in 1976 and he did not win the nomination, not 1980.
Oops!
Still, the point stands, even Reagan did not follow his own rule.
Reagan’s 11th commandment was not ever meant for liberal Republicans during the primary season. It was meant for conservative Republicans during primary seasons and all Republicans during general election seasons.
Therefore, in the spirit of his commandment, going after a liberal Gerald Ford was not a violation. After Ford got the nomination, he did NOT disparage him.
All candidates are imperfect... its just a matter of how much slime one side can throw at the other to raise negatives in an attempt to sway voters. Of all candidates, the most imperfect is Obama. The least is Gingrich. So, I’ll take Gingrich with debate skills, political savvy, and a new 21st Century Contract with America commitment along with his earlier “baggage” against any of the current candidates. He can win decisively against Obama.
that’s right and that’s exactly why Newt has to last. Newt is the last anti-Romney firewall standing. After three decades in the game, Newt has accumulated some baggage but I don’t think it’s as significant as some of you would have us believe; furthermore, the wisdom and experience developed over that same 30 years makes up for any perceived shortcomings as far as I’m concerned and we have seen what electing inexperienced politicians to the highest office of the land gets us.
