Since leaving office in 1999, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has spent much of his time convincing conservatives to support government subsidies for large corporations, reports the Washington Examiner.
In addition to his work as a “strategic consultant” for government-sponsored mortgage lender Freddie Mac, the Examiner reports that tax filings show Gingrich received money from the ethanol lobby.
Green Energy, a lobbying group that works to secure and create government subsidies for the much-criticized ethanol industry, paid the Gingrich Group more than $300,000 as recently as 2009. Unlike most conservative experts on the industry, Gingrich is a staunch advocate of ethanol, an expensive corn-based alternative fuel opposed by many conservatives due to its price tag and incompatibility — at high concentrations — with some modern automobile engines.

Noot has always said one thing and done the opposite.
Clinton was pre 9/11, everything changed for me that day. While this election will be won or lost on American pockets the world is a very dangerous place still. I am not comparing Obama and Herman here but look at the damage Obama has wrought in the Middle East and Africa. Jihadists and sharia are ascendant and Obama will lose same to Iraq as he has in Egypt and Libya. I like Herman but would just feel more comfortable with a guy making policy decisions about Iran, Iraq and Israel with some historical and current knowledge about same.
But for the record no candidate thrills me and my vote will be an anti Obama vote no matter who runs against him.

I think you’re on the right track.
There is no way that Newt can win the general.
Most Republicans know that too, so Newt is the true path to Mitt if he wins a few states.

I do not hold any one thing against Herman, it is just my opinion he lacks in history and current events. If he wins the nomination I will happily vote for him over Obama.
I agree that Herman Cain does not have the solid grasp of foreign policy that many of us would like to see. However, very few successful presidential candidates (usually state governors) come to the Oval Office with such knowledge. What I believe Cain has is a quick mind and a bold (not belligerent) attitude about Americas place in the world. That is, a defined idea of what is right and what is needed to deal with rogue states (Iran, North Korea). A philosophy, if you will. That is paramount, to me. He can be schooled by aides on 'foreign policy' details and learn the names of the leaders of obscure countries if he has to and I'm sure he will be doing so as the campaign continues because he must realize this is a weak point for him and could hurt his chances in the primaries. However, I don't see Newt Gingrich as being the epitome of foreign policy expertise, either. He is just more articulate when speaking on it which is fine but doesn't convince me that he is the kind of 'conservative' I want as president.
Frankly, the economy is what will determine who wins the Republican primary race and all this sudden concern about foreign policy expertise is mostly the MSM throwing curve balls at Republican candidates and rival candidates seeking to exploit what they see as other candidates weak spots. I hope conservatives don't allow ourselves to get mired into making this the major factor in deciding who our candidate will be. I certainly don't intend to do so.

At the Conservative Political Action Committee gathering and presidential debate in Florida last week, Gingrich plugged his wife’s new book twice during his remarks. The event also featured an airing of one of his other films, “Ronald Reagan: Rendezvous With Destiny.”
He struggled to explain how the couple had carried as much as $500,000 in debt on a revolving charge account at Tiffany. And his last campaign finance report showed that his campaign was $1 million in debt.
Discussing a candidate’s record, including how and for what he has made substantial sums of money, is not a cheap shot or throwing dirt.
Or maybe that person who isn't running is because Bachmann and Perry are.
Given the current field, there are only two reasons I am not contributing to Michele Bachmann: 1) she is a real long shot at this stage and 2) her “telemarketing hounds from hell” will pursue me 24/7 for nine months like the last time I contributed to her.
Romney is entirely unacceptable and unelectable. Newt, less so.

I feel the same way. The economy will probably be the main focus of this election, but the MENA situation is the most consequential and threatens every aspect of our lives. We need someone who gets that.
I may have to take another look at Santorum.
None of them are running for president.
