When I was growing up on a farm in Iowa, the standard rule concerning edible livestock was that any critter that has a name is safe from becoming Sunday dinner.

I guy I knew had a calf on his farm named "Cheeseburger".

My uncle had a nasty old Bull on his farm. When I was a little kid, the bull chased me out of the pasture.

Next time we came to visit, we ate the bull for dinner. Mom and Dad were worried what I would think, being just a little kid and all.

I didn't have a problem with it. The burgers were delicious. It was a good lesson in how the food chain worked, at least for me.
