Richard Land, director of the Southern Baptist Conventions Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, is more skeptical, saying that Gingrichs candidacy will be a hard sell for many voters. Land has been doing informal focus groups among Southern Baptists for the past two years on Gingrichs candidacy, as he expected Gingrich to run and be a serious contender. He found that women are especially wary of Gingrich.
Hes got a gender problem, Land says. His toughest audience is going to be evangelical women. Evangelical men, depending on what Newt does and says, are more likely to give him the benefit of the doubt. Women, on the other hand, have told Land that they would vote for Gingrich under no circumstances. If the general election comes down to Gingrich and Obama, they say, they may just not vote.

I’m not seeing the evidence that Conservatives are aware that their main shot to be heard is over the next 3 months. Rather then going for a solid conservative, they seem bound and determined to let the media choose their candidate.
Its not looking like the best cast. Everyone has warts. One candidate is an outright liberal, another candidate is a liberal in moderates clothing (huntsman), another candidate talks conservative but has no evidence of ever having actually done anything conservative (Cain), another is an actual conservative but gaffes nonstop (Bachman) and another is nuts (Paul) and another is a somewhat populist conservative but is clearly not a supporter of the tea party (Sanctorum) and the remaining 2 are Perry (bad debater, weak on immigration) and Gingrich (likes to wander).........Not exactly a battle for the right.
you know, you made a semi-coherent point but had to cheapen it with snark that does not work. I’m all for a little pepper or sarcasm, but since no one, and I mean NO ONE, who is or who might support Newt is calling him a saint, it simply weakened the post.
Write in. That is what I plan to do if Cain is not in the primary.
If this country needs to “burn as barry fiddles, errrr, golf”, in order to rebuild ourselves to what America was originally intended for, so be it.
Can Newtie win over national-security conservatives?
“Can Gingrich Win Over Conservatives?
FIFY”
Newt has won me over
Back in the "RUN SARAH RUN" days, anyone who suggested that she was not electable in the general was pretty much told to sit down and shut up, electability was not a reason not to support her.
Interesting that electability is now back on the table.....
Hate to pour reality over the Gingrich bashers here but this election is going to be based on the economy and jobs.
Try to make it about social issues primarily and Obama will win another 4 years, it won’t matter who he faces.
What’s the unemployment rate among social conservatives?
The media is working on Newt now,and meanwhile Romney gets to skate like Soretoro did.
Meanwhile Cain has no experience in any elected office, and it would take him a year to figure out what was going on,and Soros et ilk will send some more floozies to smear him.
Our Country is on the edge of a precipice
My money is on Newt.
If Newt goes to confession and takes communion then he’s good to go. My faith tells me so.
A Mormon and a Catholic? Not likely.
We’ve all seen this ride before...
We’ve been the moderate route, it failed. Why are we doing what failed before?
Do you think Newt as president would veto a repeal of Obamacare? Do you think Obama would? Do you think that as a Catholic Newt is NOT pro life?
I cannot in good conscience vote for a pro abort republican.
______________________________________________________________
Then vote for the pro-Abortion, pro-faggot marriage, Marxist, Muslim, American-hating, scumbag that we have in the White House now. I’m sure you’ll sleep well on Election night November 2012 knowing that....
1. by damn, you sent a message and
#2. that Obama is given 4 more years to finish destroying this nation.
You will be so happy having sent your message.
I could have agreed before the sexual harassment allegations against Cain.
Disproving and totally getting rid of those accusations will be very difficult. One big advantage we have over the Democrats is the belief by the general public that we're the party of morality. Some hate us for that, but they don't dispute it. Creating a ticket of an admitted adulterer and an accused sexual harasser, even if the anti-Cain allegations are bogus, could cause real problems.
On the other hand, if Cain wins the nomination we'll have had about eight or nine months to disprove the allegations. I don't think there's enough time to do it before Iowa and New Hampshire, but there may be enough time between now and November 2012.
My last name is Italian. I might just possibly have a fair amount of personal knowledge of Roman Catholic doctrine regarding confession. I can respect your position on this matter — your politics can and **SHOULD** be informed by your faith and its tenets.
Please understand, however, that this thread is entitled “Can Gingrich Win Over Social Conservatives?”
Social conservatives include many people who are not Roman Catholic and have a very different view from that of the Roman Catholic Church when it comes to confession of sin. I'm a Calvinist so I'm on the far right wing of the evangelical Protestant community when it comes to the doctrine of sin and depravity, but I am not alone among evangelicals in saying that repentance must be demonstrated by very clear fruits over an extended period of time.
Furthermore, the way people runs their household is a key indicator of their ability to lead others. Gingrich, because of his two divorces and a longstanding adultery problem that led to his third marriage, has proved himself incapable of running his own house. That's an absolute disqualification for church office, and needs to be taken into serious consideration for secular positions as well.
I can imagine myself voting for Newt Gingrich if the alternatives are worse. But as I've said before, we have a golden opportunity in front of us. It is a crying shame that we're in this position today with such a weak crop of candidates. We should have had better candidates to pick from, and it will be our own fault if President Obama gets re-elected because we couldn't put up a good challenger.
No.
Next question?
Indeed.
If Jim DeMint or Paul Ryan or Mitch Daniels or Bobby Jindal had run, I would not be here weighing the good and bad points of the existing field and making the calculated decision that Newt is the best of the lot we have.
But they didn't, and I am.
