The 14-year old attending a party, where a fight happened, at 2:00 a.m. was somewhat fortunate. Maybe they were stargazing.

Back when NYC, under Dinkins was a total mess, and the murder rate was exploding...every time the papers ran another story about a murder, they would ALWAYS inclde the TOTAL number of murders to date, and how that was ahead/behind of the previous year's pace.
I note the absence of these stats in this article...

Englewood is the heart of the south side ghetto.
Unfortunately, there are elements in our society who settle all slights, real and imagined, at the barrel of a gun.

From one article, there were 33 murders in October through the 26th. In October 2010, there were 35 homicides.

I guess we’ve ceded whole communities to thugs. Funky neighborhoods don’t make funky people. Funky people make funky neighborhoods.
No guilt here about the mass flight to the suburbs. It’s a matter of survival.

How could all these people get shot in a city with no gun stores, no concealed carry, no assault rifles or handguns? Isn’t it against the law to do all these things, plus I think it is even against the law to shoot another human being. We need to make another law for them to break, obviously.

Average weekend night. Most restrictive gun laws in the U.S. Oh well, doesn’t work, no surprise....and generally nothing good happens after midnight, especially in the ghetto.

Murders dropped from 35 to 33? What’s to complain about that is a 6+% drop in one month. Oh I made a mistake this month is not over yet, they could still best 35.
