Three U.S. students have been arrested in Cairo for allegedly throwing firebombs at Egyptian security forces amid ongoing anti-government protests.

The Americans attend the American University in Cairo as exchange students. The school, which sits on Tahrir Square, the central protest site, confirmed the students' arrest.

National television showed video of the three, identified as Derrik Sweeney, from Georgetown University, Luke Gates, from Indiana University and Greg Porter, from Drexel University.

Kevin Sweeney, Derrick's father, told CBS Radio news that his son was being held in a courthouse in Cairo.

There was a short clip of these kids on FOX this morning. They looked terrified.

These fools will pay dearly for throwing those molotov cocktails in a foreign country.

How totally ignorant they are. College breeds idiots anymore.

I hope we got a better deal on the exchange than the Egyptians did.

Sheeeeyit. More likely, the Egyptian military will get 100 million dollars from American taxpayers for each of these miscreants.

Wasn't that the going amount for those idiots we bought back from North Korea and Iran?

And we wonder where the 500 million dollars that supposedly went to Solyndra really went.

FWIW, a bud of mine from a former life once had a little too much to drink in a Japanese bar. He was big, husky and thought he could take on an army of petite little Japanese in their cute little police cars.

Let's just say that he learned that small size wasn't necessarily an indication of small strength and small will.

He was quite fortunate as to how easy they went on him once he sobered up, showed some remorse and offered to pay for the damages he caused.

Maybe they will send Moochelle over there with a trash bag of taxpayer dollars to buy off the Egyptians.

These kids are too stupid to waste money on.

You'll love this video: click here .

The Japanese police are utterly professional and watch the tackle at the end. Beautiful technique.

Not just anymore.

I was attending undergrad in DC when the 1991 Cinco de Mayo/Mount Pleasant Riot took place. My dorm roomie (who was a reservist not called up) and I had purchased surplus gasmasks earlier in the schoolyear for a "Liberate Kuwait/Attack Iraq" sendoff party for a couple of our friends who were called up and about to ship over.

As we're watching the riot unfold on TV, the two guys living in the room next to us came over asking if they could borrow the gasmasks (along with my aluminum softball bat) to go down and see the riot live/in-person.

We actually came VERY close to handing them over (along with a hearty "may God have mercy upon your soul") ... but decided we didn't want blood on our hands.

Jap policeman must have played some (American) football..Great tackle..down low..shoulders squared up..into the perp..good technique..

Do you know if Jap police are issued tasers?

As for the three Americans in the Cairo clink..they will stay in jail until trial ( does Egypt have bail?) be convicted..and sentenced to time served..and expelled from the country...US can't , and should NOT, intervene on their behalf..it would be like defending terrorists...

I saw the Swedish Polis beat the living Skit out of some local Swede who was drunk and disorderly, gave him the full Rodney King in front of dozens of witnesses, yours truly included. I never intended to mess with Swedish, or any other police, but that just confirmed it.

The way we second guess the cops and coddle criminals in this country, we are asking for it.

Any American student stupid enough to attend college in any country that is the least bit hostile to the US deserves anything that happens to them.

Personally, I wouldn’t attend college in any foreign country. The world is way, way too unsettled.

I can’t let your comment go by without congratulating you on your ethnographic awareness. There were, indeed, Sweeneys in Egypt.

I’ve studied things Egyptic,
Those writings weird and cryptic,
Upon the tombs that dot Sahara’s sands.
I’ve solved each strange inscription
Left by each wise Egyptian
And hold the mystic secret in my hands.
The Irish were Egyptians long ago
Just read between the lines and you will know.

CHORUS:
It must have been the Irish who built the Pyramids
For no one else could carry up the bricks.
It must have been a Doyle
Who dug the river Nile
For no one but an Irishman would fight a crocodile.

I think these Micks were Turks, Mohammedans and Ghurks
They speak of “Irish Turkey” till today.
Cleopatra was a colleen who came from Connmara
She lost her nationality while roaming in Sahara
So all the Hooligans and all the Dooligans
Must have been Egyptians long ago.

Chorus

Now every Houlihan once drove a caravan.
I’ll say the same for every Mac and O.
And when Moses went to Egypt and saw those Irish faces,
He took the name O’Callahan and changed it to O’Asis
So all the Hooligans and all the Dooligans
Must have been Egyptians long ago.

They will be lucky if they only lose their hands.

I had a friend who was on leave from the Navy in Cairo. Someone was caught stealing from one of the market stalls.

They rounded up everyone in the market at the time, and they cut they guys hand off right there in front of everyone.

These students I am sure just want to be part of the big socialist movement. I am sure their professors encourage them to join the fray.

Probably not to lob firebombs at the military of a foreign country though.

This was plain stupid and they will be lucky if they get out of this without too much trouble. They sure looked terrified. They deserved to look terrified.

I figure someone will throw big bucks their way and the Egyptians will take it and make them leave the country.

Well, according to the local DC news I'm watching, the one from Georgetown interned for a Republican Congressman from Missouri last year.

The spot interviews from the Georgetown campus were hilarious. One airheaded girl (I thought Georgetown had high admission standards) prattled on about how Americans abroad need to understand that they don't have the same cherished rights in places like Egypt that they enjoy here in the US.

Did I miss something, or is creating and employing a gasoline-based incendiary device a "cherished right" here in the US?!?!?!?
