Texas Student Refuses Mexican Pledge of Allegiance, Anthem

Students studying Spanish in a Texas public high school were asked to recite the Mexican national anthem and Mexican pledge of allegiance as part of an assignment, and when one student refused, stating that it upset her, the school district maintains there was nothing wrong with the lesson, writes Madeleine Morgenstern at the Blaze.

The incident happened last month at Achieve Early College High School in McAllen, Texas — a city located about 10 miles from the U.S.-Mexico border.

15-year-old sophomore Brenda Brinsdon refused to participate, stating that she was particularly offended because the presentations in teacher Reyna Santos’s class took place during “Freedom Week,” the week after the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks, and on U.S. Constitution Day — the same day as Mexico’s Independence Day, writes Morgenstern.

“I just thought it was out of hand, I didn’t think it was right,” she told The Blaze. “Reciting pledges to Mexico and being loyal to it has nothing to do with learning Spanish.”

She added:

“Why are we doing their independence when it‘s Freedom Week and it’s also Constitution Day?”

....and yet, if one student in an American school objects to saying our Pledge of Allegiance because it contains the words “One Nation, Under God”, then nobody in the school is allowed to recite it!

To ask American students to pledge allegiance to another nation is wrong.

From the perspective of the Founders, it would be tantamount to denial of one’s American citizenship. After all, America does not allow dual citizenship.

Well, that’s a nice little piece of bombast that doesn’t know if it wants to be oom-pah-pah or a heavenly choir.

Teachers hate it when students see through the haze and understand the true motives behind class activities.

“Have you ever listened to the Mexican National Anthem? It is a really annoying melody.”

In Southern California there are all sports AM radio stations that broadcast from Baja California in English. They play that crappy Mexican National Anthem and public service announcements in English. The public service announcements tell us how great the Mexican government is. One PSA gave out a phone number to call when one of your family members is kidnapped.

It is a really annoying melody.

I actually like the melody, which is a stirring march. I hear it almost every day when I get up. A couple of radio stations south of the border play it at six AM on weekdays. One plays a version by a brass band, and the other features a choir singing its bellicose lyrics.

Oddly enough, the melody was written not by a Mexican. Jaime Nunó, a Catalan born in Gerona, in the foothills of the Pyrenees, gained fame as a leader of bands in Spain and Cuba before being invited by Mexican president Antonio López de Santa Anna to come to Mexico to lead military bands. It was during his brief time in Mexico, in 1854, that he wrote the melody to the anthem. Shortly afterwards, Santa Anna was ousted, and Nunó immigrated to the United States, settling in New York.

Listen to the Mexican national anthem here.

Some of the public service announcements in Spanish are also interesting. I don't speak the language very well, but one series of ads seemed to be admonishing voters to have a a voter ID card issued by their government in order to vote. Apparently, Mexicans don't consider it "racist," "repressive," or whatever to require voters to identify themselves.

The Pyrenees are in the Basque country, not in Catalonia.

Conveniently left out of every la raza demand is how they “stole” Mexico from the Mayans. I don’t remember Cortez buying the land from them.

This is pretty appalling. The news from the public schools gets worse every day. People need to give up on them.

Exactly! That's why watching Mexican TV is funny. Not many "Mexicans" ever appear on it.

It is especially humorous when voiced in Spanish, a language that did not exist in the Americas pre-Columbus.

LOL! Touche!

Yes, and they still proudly speak the language of their conquerors

The Pyrenees extend into Catalonia. When I traveled through the region, I was struck by their resemblance to the Santa Ana Mountains of California. Read more here about the Catalan Pyrenees.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

Mexico is a 3rd world hole that is reverting back to the paganism and human sacrifice ethic of its Aztec and Mayan predecessors. Last place on earth I would pledge allegiance to. I might as well pledge allegiance to allah and muhammad

DID PERRY MAKE A DEAL WITH LA RAZA to place Raza studies or Mexican-American studies in Texas schools? Raza studies have been taught in Arizona for a decade......then they passed a law against it....but it still goes on

RAZA STUDIES

One of the textbooks used is titled “Occupied America,” which was written by Rodolfo Acuña and includes a speech given by activist and university professor Jose Angel Gutierrez in which he says: “We have got to eliminate the gringo, and what I mean by that is if the worst comes to the worst, we have got to kill him,” (pg. 323).

The book also talks about the need for Mexico to re-take seven states in the Southwestern United States.

The following rather shocking quotes are taken directly from Occupied America (pg. 167):

“Supporters would execute all white males over age 16,” (also known as the Plan of San Diego).

“The Southwest would become a Chicano nation.”

In addition to using taxpayer funds to enforce such polarizing beliefs in Latino children in traditional public schools, the organization known as La Raza operates 100 charter schools across the country. The following is a list of a few of those schools:-La Academia Semillas del Pueblo (Los Angeles) -Atzlan Academy (Tucson, AZ) -Mexicayotl Academy (Nogales, AZ) -The Dolores Huerta Prepatory High School (Pueblo, CO) -Academia Cesar Chavez Charter School (St. Paul, MN)

In 2005 alone, $7.9 million in taxpayer funding was given out to these charter schools in the form of U.S. Department of Education grants. These schools stress Latino culture, the Spanish language, the re-conquest of the American Southwest, the establishment of the mythical Atzlan, and even Aztec math.

You might want to remove JoenTX from your ping list.

JoenTX rode a lightning bolt out of here a couple of weeks ago.
