There is no room for Jesus on Pakistani cell phones. According to Vatican news agency Fides, the latest wild dictate has come from the Head of Telecommunications: It is forbidden to write the name of Jesus Christ in text messages. Mobile phone companies have been ordered to block text messages that contain certain words considered vulgar, obscene or harmful in terms of meaning and modesty. Jesus Christ and Satan are among the 1600 banned words (many are of a sexual nature). Companies have seven days to implement the provision, but Christian Churches and organisations for human rights in Pakistan have declared war.
Fr. John Shakir Nadeem, Secretary of the Episcopal Conferences Commission for Social Communications, announced to Fides news agency that: the Catholic Church in Pakistan will do all it can to put pressure on the government to eliminate Christs name from the list of banned words. We understand the desire to protect the minds of young people by creating a list of obscene words. But why should Christs name be included? What makes it obscene? Banning it would be a violation of our right to evangelise and it hurts the feeling of Christians. If the ban is confirmed, it will constitute a dark moment in the countrys history; a further act of discrimination against Christians and a clear violation of the Pakistani Constitution. We hope the government will make the opportune amendments.
A number of human rights and citizens freedom organisations, such as Bytes for All have stated that they will contest the order in court. They say it violates the right to free speech and freedom of expression. And not only. The ban would be an intrusion of citizens privacy. Furthermore, according to some associations, not only is the order oppressive, but it has features of unconstitutionality.
The head of telecommunications stated that the freedom of Pakistani people is subject to limitations stipulated by the law, in the interest of the glory of Islam. A glory that is orwellianly correct.
Islam needs to be banned in the US and treated as a criminal enterprise.
Suppose I am texting my friend Jesus Rivera, a American of Mexican decent who just happens to be on business in Pakistan???
Can't do that, might be called racist. /sarc
But, but, Islam is one of the three great Abrahamaic Faiths! They are our spiritual cousins! They revere Jesus as a prophet... how could this be?!
Samuel L Jackson says use “HeyZeus”
That is because there is great power in the word, “Jesus.”
They’re just following the lead of hundreds of school districts in this country.
I wonder what cell phone companies are doing business in Pakistan, and support this action? I know as a Christian, I’d pay a little more to a company which has a backbone to ensure freedom for all.
YEah, that’s true. Islam is a race...to the dark ages.
It's only natural for them to shy away from the Light.
Why do the Muslims have to remain so damn backwards, and be such a plague of ignorance on the world? And why do they insist on leaving their hellhole countries, and immediately start turning their new and better surroundings into the same damn hellholes they escaped?
What a truly clever line!
Glad you got that. :)
In Christ's name. Amen.
Islam is not just a quasi religion, it is a political party....more of a dictatorship with deadly consequences if not obeyed...it is a criminal enterprise and American Muslims will not come forward and denounce it...they can't if they want to live. America is no place for this home of bogus and oppressive laws.
Jesus Rivera is OK. Jesus Christ is forbidden.
“Why do the Muslims have to remain so damn backwards, and be such a plague of ignorance on the world? And why do they insist on leaving their hellhole countries, and immediately start turning their new and better surroundings into the same damn hellholes they escaped?”
I’ve wondered the same thing about liberals for some time.
Oh, Jeeze...........
“I wonder what cell phone companies are doing business in Pakistan, and support this action?”
Unfortunately, text message filtering is very easy for telcom companies to do and there are well educated Paki engineers willing to make them do it.
