Zetas blamed for shootout in Houston
Houston Chronicle via San Antonio Express News ^ | 23 November 2011 | Dane Schiller

The mission was supposed to be a textbook “controlled delivery” — a routine trap by law enforcement officers using a secret operative posing as a truck driver to bust drug traffickers when their narcotics are delivered to a rendezvous point.

Instead, things spun out of control. Shortly before the marijuana delivery was to be made Monday, three SUVs carrying alleged Zetas Cartel gunmen seemingly came out of nowhere and cut off the tanker truck as it rumbled through northwestern Harris County, sources told the Houston Chronicle.

They sprayed the cab with bullets, killing the civilian driver, who was secretly working with the government. An undercover sheriff's deputy, who was driving nearby in another vehicle, was wounded, possibly by friendly fire from officers arriving at the scene.

“We are not going to tolerate these types of thugs out there using their weapons like the Wild, Wild West,” said Javier Pena, the new head of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration's Houston Division. “We are going after them.”

“Everybody is surprised at the brazenness,” Pena continued as he stressed a full court press by the DEA, the sheriff and police. “We haven't seen this type of violence, which concerns us.”

A contingent of law enforcement officers had been covertly shadowing the truck as it eased its way through the Houston area to deliver a load of marijuana fresh from the Rio Grande Valley.

As the gunmen attacked, officers quickly jumped into the fray and also opened fire on the attackers. The truck kept rolling until it careened off the roadway and came to a halt.

Four suspects, all believed to be citizens of Mexico, were arrested and charged Monday with capital murder in connection with the shooting.

I'm not surprised, Mr. Pena and if you haven't seen this type of violence it's because you've kept your eyes wide shut.

Meanwhile, the Department of Homeland (In)Security is issuing warnings about turkey fryers. Duh, I wonder if the Mexican gunmen were in the country illegally. Even if they were here legally, how did they get visas? It won’t be long before we start seeing decapitated bodies hanging from freeway overpasses here in the USA.

The DEA was involved in F&F so you shouldn't be surprised.
You armed 'em you fight 'em.

One of the main task in Afghanistan is control of the border and who crosses it.

We send our guys out to do it with no real experience, against armed insurgents and taliban.

Lets have them practice on our own southern border first, a little safer and much closer to full medical support.

Let them be armed exactly as they would on deployment, allow lethal force, the cartels will make the training quite realistic.

The benefit to the U.S. will be much more immediate and clear than our efforts in Afghanistan!

Yea, but don’t make it electric, or you’ll be sounding like Herman Cain. And we ALL know he’s an idiot.

LOL.

Preferrably barbed with high voltage electricity.

Or, a US Army presence.

That was already tried by Bush Sr. as part of his War on Drugs. It was called Joint Task Force 6 (JTF-6), now JTF North.

On 20 May 1997, during an operation in Redford, Texas near the United States–Mexico border, a US military member fatally shot 18 year old American citizen in the back on the American side of the border as he was herding goats adjacent to his home.

We don't need a re-occurrence of that incident.

Thanks for the ping. Bet the media will be all over this! Gotta give those officers credit... All four of these scum are upright and in custody, making it more difficult for Eric’s merry band of prosecutors to place blame on LEOs. My strong desire is for the confiscated weapons to be traced to the Fast and Furious debacle but of course we will never know.

Why do they keep arresting these bastards, just KILL them and have done with it. You want to send a message, that would be the message they understand.

so...lemme get this right:

1. Now Mexican gunmen conduct PATROLS on US territory, actively hunting US Border Patrol officers. And the rumors are that those gunmen were Mexican SOLDIERS.

2. The Zetas feel strong enough to attempt rip-offs of drug shipments KNOWN TO BE UNDER SURVEILLANCE.

Do I have that correct?

IF that’s correct it would appear we are in a de-facto state of WAR on our Southern border.

We are we even THINKING about warring on Iran, when we have THIS on our doorstep?
