"First, I am instructing the Defense Ministry to immediately put the missile attack early warning radar station in Kaliningrad on combat alert. Second, protective cover of Russia's strategic nuclear weapons, will be reinforced as a priority measure under the programme to develop out air and space defenses. Third, the new strategic ballistic missiles commissioned by the Strategic Missile Forces and the Navy will be equipped with advanced missile defense penetration systems and new highly-effective warheads. Fourth, I have instructed the Armed Forces to draw up measures for disabling missile defense system data and guidance systems if need be... Fifth, if the above measures prove insufficient, the Russian Federation will deploy modern offensive weapon systems in the west and south of the country, ensuring our ability to take out any part of the US missile defense system, in Europe. One step in this process will be to deploy Iskander missiles in Kaliningrad Region"

Bull crap. It is an election rhetoric by Russian ruling party to deflect communist criticism on ‘Reset’ policy.

Radar stations are always on alert. No real news there.

So much for the advertised re-set in relations with Russia. We sold out our allies for a two year truce. That worked quite well for Obama and the RINOs who told us relations with Russia were on the mend. Oops!

So, he is going to activate their defensive air search radar! Wait, shouldn’t that be active anyway as part of their air defense system?

So, he is going to target missile batteries that would only be used in the event of an incoming ICBM headed for Europe. “I am going to target you with ICBMs if you try to defend yourself from ICBM attacks!”

SLBM’s, bombers, and ICBM targeting has been instant update on both sides since the late 70’s.

They can say something is ‘targetted’ or not. I can say my facebook status is single or in a relationship. Same thing. Put in a coordinate on the missle or not.

Maybe cunning_fish, but further the article continues:

“...Other measures to counter the European missile defense system will be drawn up and implemented as necessary. Furthermore, if the situation continues to develop not in Russia’s favor we reserve the right to discontinue further disarmament and arms control measures. Besides, given the intrinsic link between strategic offensive and defensive arms, conditions for our withdrawal from the New START Treaty could also arise.” That said, he concludes that Russia is still open to dialog. However, if Obama merely intends to bomb any nation at will, we are very much concerned that everything Medvedev has just threatened will be enacted. And exponentially more so when Putin comes back in charge. One thing is certain - Russia is not North Korea, and taking this speech for more empty jawboning is probably not the wisest option...

No, we just need to have a hockey game and allow them to beat us to satisfy some of the old guys over there that are really competitive with us.

Russia needs a Tea Party of their own.

Two of my favorite Russia-themed films, Red October and The Russian Ark. Gotta love the Russians. Commies, no so good, Russians, they’re... well.. they’re too much :) (you know what I mean if you’ve known any).

America has to start being America again. The Russian leaders really miss that, IMHO.

Are things beginning to spin out of control here?

Maybe, but you'll never know if you rely on crap from the zerohedge blog. Try reading an authoritative source instead.

Sounds like a dangerous idiot. No one is dreaming of attacking Russia. The defense shield can do them no harm. They are talking about developing the ability to attack Europe with nuclear weapons. Insanity. Why should Russia have the ability to destroy Europe? That is what they are demanding.

“Standing up to the Russians”.

Our own, new, “Iron Lady”. (you heard it here first, folks.)

There’s not much foreign policy in this speech, but this is from about a month ago. (shameless plug for my favorite candidate, hangin’ in there by her fingernails).

Because that is what it is. A big, heaping pile of it. Some of the stuff he lists was stuff that the Russians boasted about supposedly achieving a couple of years ago (e.g. a missile that defeats anti-missile systems). Frankly, they just wanted to roll Barry with START and many of us on FR figured the Russians would look for an excuse to pull out of it make make Barry look like the chump he is.

Does anyone have news links to when the Russkies had subs off the US coast when (right before) Zero was ‘coronated’? Seems I remember that at the time.

Fine Larry, but this was from a Nationally televised speech by Russian president Dmitry Medvedev, not speculation from Zerohedge. Watch the video yourself if you care to see for yourself...
