Gun Owners Give Thanks for Three 2nd Amendment Victories

Gun owners have much to be grateful for this Thanksgiving with three significant Second Amendment victories within the last week.

1.) On Nov. 16, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 822, the long-awaited National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act, which would allow individuals with state-issued concealed firearm permits or licenses to carry a concealed firearm in any other state that also issues concealed firearm permits or licenses, or in any state that does not prohibit the carrying of concealed firearms.

Previous versions of the proposed National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act never made it beyond the House. This time, it was approved in a 272-154 vote; 43 Democrats supported it and seven Republicans voted against it. Despite the broad support in the House, the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act is not expected to be approved by the Senate. Second Amendment advocates are encouraged to contact their Senators and urge them to adopt it.

2.) On Nov. 17, the U.S. Department of the Interior backed away from its proposed plan to restrict or, in some cases, ban target-shooting on federal land managed by the Bureau of Land Management. Under fire from gun owners, the department issued a press release stating it would "make sure shooters still have access to lands long available for firearms recreation." Regardless, gun owners and those concerned about access to public land--YOUR land, not the government's--should keep the heat on federal land managers.

3.) On Nov. 18, the House and the Senate passed the "mini-bus," which is the combined appropriations bills for Fiscal Year 2012 (which began Oct. 1) from the Agriculture, Commerce/Justice/Science (CJS) and Transportation/Housing/Urban Development (THUD) congressional committees.

According to the NRA, the "mini-bus" features 12 provisions "that strengthen the Second Amendment and protect the American people" by either appropriating money or by failing to do so.

Each Swiss adult male has his own assault rifle at home.

I've never understood some people's fear of guns. People have always murdered each other WAY before guns appeared. They had knives, poison, fire, 2by4's in the back of the head, bad cooking, drowning, etc. Now we have rap music, Ethel Merman tapes, Hillary Clinton on T.V., etc.
Besides, bombs are the real killers. Hiroshima and Oklahoma showed us that.

My husband taught me to shoot. My target was OBL's head. I enjoyed it. When he bought the red-light attachment for aim, it was hard to miss.

We SHOULD be thankful for this legislation.

We should also be thankful that Wyoming, as of July 1, 2011, became the fourth State in the nation to make it legal to carry concealed without having to obtain a permission slip from the State.

I wonder which State(s) will get Constitutional carry next year? It would be nice to just pass a national Constitutional carry law that simply backs up the 2nd Amendment as intended. I wonder what the Feds will do when the States start making it legal to own full auto firearms without restriction?
