Black Friday Update: Watch a Walmart Riot Over $2 Dollar Waffle Iron
Death and Taxes ^ | November 25, 2011 | unknown

Remember in 2008 when Barack Obama promised to restore the perception of America abroad? On hand at a Walmart near Little Rock, Arkansas today were throngs of Black Friday shoppers hell-bent on keeping that image tarnished, thank you very much.

Walmart put a mini waffle maker on sale for 2 dollars. As WBTV news notes, the mini waffle iron makes only 2 waffles at a time, but the store carries a larger 4-at-a-time version at a much higher price per waffle.

With supply limited and demand for said waffle iron apparently sky-high, the crowd launched headlong into that great American tradition known as the retail riot.

The retail riot isn’t exactly a new phenomenon—it’s at least as old as Tickle-Me Elmo—but this may be the first riot over a 2 dollar item in history. It’s likely a sign of the continued brutal economy that has 1 in 3 Americans either in poverty or “near poverty,” and has to be the most topical Black Friday story this year along with the woman who co-opted cops’ favorite toy of 2011, pepper spray, to mow down the competition for an Xbox 360.

Get yourself in the Christmas spirit by checking out the video below.

What helped was that the store is a ‘job lot’ store that gets truck lots of ‘last years’ designs and such - and top brand clothes like L.L.Bean, Woolrich, etc. Much better than WalMart. ;o)

And household goods, etc. Sheets and dishes and glasses etc don't really go out of style.

On another note, I just got myself a brand new pair of UGGS shoes with sheepskin linings for winter, for $15, in a thrift store. (They would otherwise cost over $100)

In another thrift store, that gave seniors 50% off on Tuesdays - I call it “old ladies Day” - over a two year period, I got over a dozen pair of top brand leather shoes - for 95 cents; 3 London Fog vintage coats (two for my granddaughters) 2 for $4.50, one for $7.98) - a long, camel colored wool/alpaca blend coat - new, listed for $750.00. I got it for $4.50, a car-coat length suede leather coat, with hood, mouton lined - $4.50 (It's SUPER for snowshoeing treks) - all looked brand new...etc etc.

It’s mostly scouting out the places and ‘cruising through a couple times a month, because unlike WalMart, Sears, etc, you never know what you'll find. ‘Just depends on
what ‘job lot’ deals they find or what people bring in.

It would have been nice had they mentioned that fact. Did you go back later?

No, haven't had time yet. Not sure if I want to brave it on a Saturday either!
