Former President Bill Clinton praised his erstwhile nemesis former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, crediting his strong debate performances with propelling him into front-runner status for the GOP presidential nomination.

(snip)

Clinton was impressed that Gingrich devised a “red card” system that would be used to stop normalizing the immigration status of illegals if efforts to control the border proved ineffective.“That was a thoughtful response,” Clinton said.

Actually, Gingrich was in the House in the early 80s. And yes, with seniority, he became the leader in the 90s.

I remember Gingrich alongside of Rep Walker from PA fighting tooth and nail to exempt the small family farms from federal regulations. I actually used to watch C span back then on our old C band dish and lemme tell you this, I had a friend who was a staunch FDR democrat, and after he watched the shysterism displayed from the democrats back then, he and his entire family are now staunch republican. I believe me, before then, a republican was the enemy to them.

Gingrich has admitted he made mistakes..which candidate has done that so far? Such as the Pelosi add etc. Romney will not and never will admit he made mistakes. Nor will Bachmann and the rest.

Right now it is between Cain and Gingrich for me...and with the experience..Gingrich gets the nod. Is he perfect? NO. Nor is anyone else. BTW. Has he ever taken an out and out nasty swipe at any of the other candidates yet?

"I think we are heading for a brokered convention. At this point, I’d take Paul Ryan or ... well, Paul Ryan.

Sure works for me, but realistically what are the prospects for a brokered convention? Is percentage or fractional awarding of state delegates according to primary totals now national GOP policy, or is that determined by individual states, with some still retaining a winner-take-all stance? Fractional assignment could indeed lead to a brokered convention, keeping alive the faint hope of a Ryan-Rubio ticket that could give us a good shot at holding the White House for the next 16 years.

I tend to agree, and as Newt has said, any of them are preferable to what we have now. And attacking other GOP candidates (as we see here all the time) only plays into Obama's hands. It makes me question the motives of some posters.

Is a Clintoon endorsement all the Libturds have left to smear Newt with?
Not that Newt is on my list of favorites, but really, after all Clinton Inc. has done to crush the Newt, Willie is using toxic praise to screw him.

For true conservatives, Billy Jeff just gave Gingrich the kiss of death.

I was wondering if that was the point. Hmmmmmm.

One would think all of the applause for Newt from liberals would give his supporters on FR pause.

One would think all of the applause for Newt from conservatives on Free Republic would give you pause.

Hardly. I've seen plenty of RINO pimping on FR in my time. This ain't any different.

I’m talking about long-term Freepers spewing crap recycled from the last time the establishment GOP tried to sell us a non-amnesty amnesty.

If you think Newt is the man, and our best hope to defeat Obama, fine. If you think he’s the worse possible choice, that’s fine, too. Bottom line: don’t let Clinton or any other Democrat mess with you head.

This is sign that the Establishment is abandoning Romney.

They knew too many people just did not like Romney in his own party. So now they compromise and roll out Establishment character #2 Gingrich.

The fact that the Establishment endorses this guy should give an conservative pause. Gingrich talks a good game and no question he is smart. However, he cannot be trusted.

INDEPENDENTS DO NOT LIKE GINGRICH. Yes he could defeat Obama in a debate, but he would lose the election. I'm sorry but the Obama worshiping media and press would have a field day on Gingrich.

If Gingrich gets the nomination, then Obama will get another 4 years.

Cain is our ONLY CHANCE of getting a conservative in the White House. The fact that the Establishment FEARS CAIN should tell you he is the guy that can WIN the White House.

I have no doubt he could defeat Obama in a Debate. Did you see the way he handled Bill Clinton?

No doubt Cain could and win over Independents too. This is why the Establishment, the Media and the Press fear him so much.

There are exceptions to any thing, however, any lady that likes Clinton wouldn’t be worth having.
